i just use the mouse...even in fsx i dont use a joystick, i just use the xbox controller

Ive tried so hard to fly helis with my joystick but can't , mouse juts feels...natural.

For jets i find it unbeleivable that people actually fly with mouse and keyboard and not joystick...weird how the world works...

I just bought a Logitech Force 3D PRO and wanted to try out the choppers with the joystick.
I-ve been using the mouse to pilot the chopper since Vanilla and really got used to it, I can say i-m good at piloting in Pr, still make some mistakes but still..
So i start a local server training and start usign the joystick with the huey and i carsh and burn a lot while taking off. So i tweak with the sensitivity etc and i-m starting to get used to it.
And then i tried every other choppers and noticed that each of them flied differently, which was the biggest problem. The LB was prefect, even more agile than the mouse, the BH was great but the Huey still gave me problems, it felt too unstable. Maybe its teh sensitivity but i still can-t get the precise flying with teh joystick. With precise flying i mean fast landing between buildings on a tight street, on a buildings roof, hovering close to the ground in a valley. I still prefer the mosue for that, but i guess its all getting used to the joystick.

Hey guys,

thanks for your opinions-

7eveN,

Well the huey is a bit.. not touchy (for me its perfectly smooth) but a bit maby.. harder to handle because of decent to pitch ratio's

When flying the LB, i find it a bit harder than the huey because even with max forward pitch (not enough to plow into the ground) i find the motor is still pushing the LB up- So theres little forward flight compared to the Huey which flies more like a plane- heavier and easier forward flight.

I dont know about touchy because even if you have your joystick settings way up high the helo should still maneuver similar due to restrictions set in game. But i have to agree i think i have my sensitivity settings down pretty low.

I have no idea how people can fly choppers with mice tho- mine is like a third arm - I make nice drops and landings now with very little casualties.. My main death cause is unknown enemies in LZ, like a techy or APC

other than that...

I guess i do have an upper hand when dogfighting another helicopter because i can keep a continuous turn easier than a M&K wielder.

Anyway-

Thanks for your time and opinions, they're greatly valued.

Keep 'em coming, i want to at least get to 15 pages :D

Regards Chugs

I use a joystick for both and i find it alot more responsive than a mouse in helicopters.

ALthough if you fly an attack chopper i would say that mouse is better i just cant get a perfect hover with my joysticks throtle but then again i prefer flying transport anyway.
The joystick makes it so much easier to avoid aa missles when in a helicopter imo.

neither joystick nor mouse in jets.
keyboard!
i play lock on besides PR and so i just cant fly jets with joystick in PR because the physics and controls are just crappy.
keyboard for jets, mouse for helos.

The physics in Pr anr't crappy, they're realistic.

I am sorry but they are not. Not that its really PRs fault, its the BF2 engine and the way it works.

Have you every flown a plane or played any flight sims?

Yes i have,

I have many hours on Microsoft Flight simulator X, and on other 'games' like lock-on

The physics in Pr ARE limited by the BF2 engine and the size of the maps!, for what Vanilla flying use to be like, PR is a BIG step forward in the aircraft industry.

and you mean ever by every dont you?

Yes.

To a certain extent yes but using that definition the vanilla ones are also realistic, but limited by map size and view distance... Ie, vanilla ones may turn faster and go slower, but they are also on smaller maps and lower view distances, so in that sense, the vanilla jets are more realistic.

PR has higher view distances and bigger maps therefor to achieve a similar balance of realism they go faster and turn slower etc but that doesn´t mean they are more realistic overall. Better yes I agree.

Also the helicopters (i'm mainly talking about) in Pr are more realistic to me than BF2 because they;re like flying a balloon in BF2 - hope you could understand that analogy.

And also the jets in BF2 can pretty much takeoff in 50m :/

well i never played choppers with joystick in bf2 and ive never played heli-sims.
i was only talking about the flight-physics of the jets.
the controls in bf2 and pr are so arcarde if you compare it with lock on (only played it and IL2 but this only with keybaord), p.e. you cant make fast turns and if you want to slow down it takes damn long even if you fly sharp turns, you dont lose enough speed. also if you (...?) pull up (...pull the joystick towards you i mean) and then fly straight up, your angle wont change in PR, thats really annoying when you do a gunstrafe with A-10 because it takes so long untill you really fly straight towards your target.
sry if you dont understand what i mean i cant express myself well :D

NO i can understand you,

Hmm yes... but i head one time ingame that there is a possible "project reality" retail game comming out from the makers of this mod! so the physics and situations will actualy suit PR this time!!

Yipee

Hope it does all come along. I'd buy it!

I think Jet is the best with Joystick (for me).
My Thrustmaster just flips out with chopper :S
Mouse is the best for Helo (for me).
Otherwise, in FSX joystick works much better with Helo :S

I find it confusing why people don't use the joystick ingame, the helicopter flight is like FSX, but just handles more like a fixed wing aircraft-- Even more a reason to fly with JS.

I wouldn´t say its like FSX at all.

SIMILAR! THE CHOPPER GOES UP- DOWN-FORWARDS-BACKWARDS-LOOP D LOOPS

What more than you want?

If u get down into the nitty gritty- yes its different

But so i a sponge from a sponge.

Well, the chopper goes up-down-forward-backwards in "Grand Theft Auto San Andreas" too.

I agree with Alex here. FSX has very realistic flying dynamics. Every combat helo sim i played untill now (Vietnam Medevac, Whirlwind over Vietnam, Enemy Engaged, Blackshark) has not flying dynamics like FSX.
You spend all you time and concentration just to fly the helicopter. Not even think to blow up something.
