hmmm wookie mod looks good....does anyone really play it/populated servers?
Implementation in PR would be nice, along with teh sn0w mapz ftw! But seriously, the snow and camo there looks pretty good, not quite PR standard but im sure it could be something seen in PR in the future

Personaly I couldn't give a flying **** about the sniper kit in PR. In most cases they are being used for unrealistic missions in PR anyway. No modern snipers jumps into a chopper to be put down on a hill just to start sniping random enemies that comes by. If snipers actually was going for squadleaders and such I would be more convinced that PR needed a sniper kit.
It could be cool if a sniper actually focused on getting a headshot on a SL to make a squad more imobilized instead of just taking out what he can get.
So what I'm basicly saying is: Yes it is awesome graphics and it looks very cool but I don't see the need of it in the PR I want to play

Just cos a fair few snipers suck doesn't mean they don't deserve attention, alot of chopper pilots and tank drivers/gunners suck but they don't seem to get as much flak as snipers for some reason.

Becuase snipers are a symbol. Together with SF kit - they were a symbol of what we've tried to get rid off - Vanilla 1337ness.
I failed to see anything great in mentioned videos, couple of eye-candy's only.

How about ballistics, weapon sway, and on-the-fly zeroing for other guns?

On the contrary, PR is the only game I snipe in, because it is the exact opposite of 1337 specops style of play.
When I snipe I try to do it realistically, by engaging targets such as the sl and medic, without compromising my location. I love being able to take 10 minutes to run to a location, and still know there's gonna be over an hour left before the game runs out.
Sniping in games such as css and nilla bf2 dosn't appeal to me, because its so.... unrealistic?

No, thats why Rhino said he should be very carefull putting this out. He took almost all bf2 content and put it in 2142. Watch the flags on top. The videos from the other page are from a bf2 mod.

Well, I have BF2142, and I didn't really like the game itself... it has performance issues on my machine unless I turn everything low, even though my computer far exceeds the recommended... so, I don't know what that's about (I can play several next gen games perfectly fine)...
However, the video as posted makes a really good point for investigating the BF2142 model...
Here are some arguments I've read in this thread:
1) Legal issues of using BF2142 etc etc
It's the exact same as making a BF2 mod. They don't care. As long as you aren't trying to sell it as its own independent game.
2) Difficult to move assets etc etc...
Eventually, the game will have to upgrade or move to another engine, or die out... that's just the nature of computers and video games. BF2142 would probably be a pretty good stepping stone, despite some of the limitations the engine brings.
3) Engine limitations (200m vehicle ceiling, etc)...
Yeah, there are these, but they can be worked within.
The only real, serious problem, I see, with moving to 2142... is that the installed user base of 2142 is far smaller than that of BF2, and the system requirements are higher... so, it'd likely be difficult to get a successful, populated mod up and running in 2142.
In a dream world, when video games got old enough (4-5+ years), developers would just go ahead and make them free before they died completely out into namelessness, and the community could make great usage of what's there, to test out new ideas etc etc, that game devs could then work from themselves, to make the next versions of big games.
I am of the opinion that DICE should look at PR and use it as inspiration to build their next game...

Agreed. I think, to be honest, a port to the 2142 engine would probably be the death of PR. Sure, all the regulars would port over, but mods thrive on new players, and there is simply far less potential for them on 2142.

I was under the impression that BF2 came as a result of DICE paying attention to the Desert Combat mod for BF1942, hopefully we will see a similar effect from PR, but I doubt it.

I hear you but you have to admit that your kind of sniping is only exist in a few handfull of players. I have nothing against your kind (except when I'm the SL or medic ofcourse:mrgreen

Why don't people sniper realistically, looking for high value targets? Because of the current revive system. If you get shot, no problem....pop smoke, medic will come revive you back to 100% health. Even with the .86 system, sniping will still be bad because it would still take 2 shots within 60s to kill 1 person, albeit a bit better than now. Head shots should kill instantly for snipers imho.

Oh and BTW you CAN go beyond 200m in 2142. Rhino is wrong , for once.

Was going on what I read, I'm pretty sure it was the FS guys who said it wasn't possible but was some time ago so maybe they found anouther way? Dunno, never modded 2142 myself, only played the betas.

I think if you take ANY rounds from any distance from the stomach area up you should be put into wounded status and have to be revived. A .22 caliber round can still penetrate your body even after a mile of flight, so why are the DM and the sniper so under powered? In the 0.86 client I drove about 500m outside of the US base in Kashan and let my squad mate test out the DM on my me. He wasnt shooting low or anything, but he kept hitting me in the mid torso where he was aiming and I would just have to bandage and be back to 100% health. Sure is realistic...

I say sniping will be pwnzor in 0.86 because snipers now have a definate purpose no need for all the funky stuff you guys want like on the fly zeroing.. just take our the medic and then the SL and watch teh rest of teh squad scramble in fear of you as they can't do anything..
