I think that many problems can be solved with the general installation of PR and BF2 if you just disable UAC while you do it all. Now you can obviously re-enable it after you are done, but if you are having major issues, disabling UAC, getting everything up and running, and then re-enabling it seems to work in some situations.

Control Panel -> Search box -> UAC

Hey, I just downloaded the mod a few hours ago, and it's working fine starting up, but when I go to login I get the message, "You must use pr.exe to run Project Reality."

"A screen cap of what I'm talking about."
Image

I did buy the game through steam, so my directory is as follows;

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr.exe

If anyone could help, I would really apriciate it. :)

Yeah you will have to wait for a fix for the steam version, I have done it ... but you will need to wait til 0.9 rolls out and the servers are updated because you will get kicked otherwise for md5 mismatch.

Until then there is a user from the community who has written a AutoHotKey script that will allow you to play.

Here is the link to the thread where its available and discussed (some users had problems so make sure you read through the thread)

I finally managed to root out my old bf2 disk and decided I might try Project Reality 0874 and after downloading and installing the CORE and LEVELs pack, however, I followed all the steps listed in the first post but I still get the same "pr.exe is not responding"

I use Vista and have set it to run as administrator but still the problem persists. I've already re-installed everything and restarted my computer but still nothing. I've even tried going directly to the source folder and directly going to the exe than going through a shortcut

I would rather not wish to start from scratch as it took 5 hours just to install everything

PR doesn't work for me when I try to open the .exe, and for obvious reasons I can no longer launch it from inside Battlefield 2. However previous builds (0.85 specifically) and other mods work perfectly when launched from inside Battlefield 2. Is there any ways I can modify the mod files so I can run it from inside Battlefield 2 again?

looks like you have mixed up some files there - you do need 0.9 part 1 and part 2 instead of 0.874 levels and core - unless you can find where you actually downloaded .9 to you will have to redownload

i suggest using a download manager like FDM, GetRight, FlashGet or a bittorrent client like µTorrent
- they can fix corrupted downloads, resume if connection interrupted and have various other features

I'm so tired of this ****. I haven't done anything different from last time and now this won't even start.

Running Windows Vista, default directories etc.

I've never had an install problem with PR before. Maybe it's a blessing. I signed up for Aikido three weeks ago to get away from the computer and finally start getting some exercise again and reverse my increasing weight, which peaked at 92kg in december. Now down to 83kg. Screw this.

Ok, I officially give up. After 2 days of re-downloading and reading this forum I admit that I need a help. :)

I play BF2 using Steam without any problems, and even Project Reality 0.87 worked using AutoHotKey script I've found here. But now, after updating to version 0.909 I can't even run PR. Every time I try to run pr.exe it appears for a few milisecs in my process manager but then it disappears without any information why. No splash, no error, nothing. And of course I run it with an administrator privileges and I've tried compactibility modes.
I thought that I'll just have to use my AutoHotKey script again but it doesn't work anymore.
Then I've tried to uninstall and reinstall PR several times. Didn't help. I've even tried to re-download both parts and BF2 using steam - also didn't help.
I was desperate so I've tried to install version 0.87 again. It started without any problems, but of course it said that I'm using an old version. So I've tried to install 0.909 again and I've just used pr.exe from version 0.87 (I knew it wouldn't work I was just curious if it won't help me find the problem). It worked, I could log in and even main menu said I have version 0.909. But again - it said that I'm using a wrong EXE file (I guess it checks the size of the main executable).
I swear I've tried everything - executing pr.exe with or without running steam, removing configuration files in documents, disabling firewall / antivirus, rebooting my computer, launching it just as a mod using BF2.exe and console parameters...and even running it through cmd.exe (I've hoped it would give me some text output) - nothing helped.

So I just want to ask - isn't there a debug mode in pr.exe? Which would tell me what's wrong? Starting it with "+debug" and similiar parameters doesn't work.

Thank you very much for any piece of advice.

My specs:

Windows 7 64 Bit
Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E6300
3 GB Ram
Nvida GeForce 8600 Gs

If you run in windowed mode you should get an error output when it crashes.

Also there should be a file in your mods/pr folder called prError.log (or something ... can't remember what I called it off hand). That might have some more information.

However in your case it seems its crashing out before even launching , in which case the only explanation I can think of is that you are not running it in Admin mode.

For what its worth I run pr through steam all the time without problems.

Didn`t work at first. Then tried, tried again. Vouala it starts. Thank you. This hasbean helpful.
I haven`t played a round yet. So if something else comes up I will complain accordingly.

Using windows 7 ultimate 64 bit. I had no problems wit the release candidate, but the real deal has given me the bf2.exe has stopped working as soon as I double click my pr 09 desktop icon bug. I can start PR fine through the BF2 in game community custom games, but I get a MD5 hash punkbuster kick after about 20 min. UK Inf. server I think.

my desktop icon properties look like this now.

Target: "C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr.exe"
Start in: "C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr"

Edit: Well after 10 or 20 minutes Kicked from Punkbuster. Reason: MD5 hash mismatch or something like that. :( ..

I have encountered a strange problem. I am able to log on to PR version 9 but I am totally unable to update the server list. However, if I sign onto an IP address, I am able to play with no problems at all.
I have tried just about everything, including uninstalling from the regedit, even to the point of buying a brand new copy of the game.
I was able to play perfectly well with all of my setting as they are now. E.A support have been about as much use as boobs on a Goldfish. Any ideas guys ???

this does not seem related to "pr.exe" issues, please find a different thread/open one yourself
fyi: bf2 needs to be patched with 1.41 and 1.5 (in that order)

After days of working on this, I have found the problem in my case.

prerror.log shows

Friday, March 05, 2010 7:58:17 PM
---------------------------------
System.ArgumentException: Absolute path information is required.
at System.Security.Util.StringExpressionSet.CreateListFromExpressions(String[] str, Boolean needFullPath)
at System.Security.Permissions.FileIOPermission.AddPathList(FileIOPermissionAccess access, AccessControlActions control, String[] pathListOrig, Boolean checkForDuplicates, Boolean needFullPath, Boolean copyPathList)
at System.Security.Permissions.FileIOPermission..ctor(FileIOPermissionAccess access, String path)
at System.Environment.GetFolderPath(SpecialFolder folder)
at f..ctor()
at e.a(String[] A_0)

I have a redirected folder for My Documents to a network drive.
My logon maps U: to \\server\dna06790\documents and then I have My Documents redirected to U:\. BF2 like it, but now PR.

I have seem to have a problem with pr.exe as well, Ive tried everything. Reinstalled bf2 with patches up to 1.5, installed both parts of pr 0.9 but when I click the pr.exe nothing happens. I did reboot my computer after installing. Ive tried all kind of things. A lot of forums say I need to run it as administrator but that option isn't there.
It worked fine before, besides the fact that it returned to desktop when loading a new map, so I reinstalled everything (battlefield 2 + pr 0.9) Now is does nothing at all.....

Specs:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+
3 gig ram
Ati Radeon 3850 256 mb
Windows xp home service pack 2

I dont know what to do, please help!

The run as administrator thing is if you are on Vista or Win7.

Do you know if your .NET has installed correctly ?
