i've got my own server m8 and we dont have a language filter on that- however i cant play on that 24 hours a day as it isnt populated. I think your bottom comment is targeted at the Chicago server and i whole heartedly agree ive seen people get kicked from ther for joining a chopper squad and taking a chopper yet an admin banned them because it was his chopper even though he had a HAT kit :S

And about the servers; I would suggest the Virginia USA PR or the Chicago Hardcore Insurgency.
Friendly players, good ping for people like you and me (since the servers are based in the States) admins are always on, and there are only a few rules, but they make sense (no tk'ing, no stealing assets, etc).

But to be honest, most PR servers are pretty good.
It's rare to encounter really terrible servers, but it can happen, as your story can attest. ;)
lol, clanmate kicked from the first for 'stealing assets" despite being in the squad named LB attack..after being yelled at by an admin..I left
as for the later, I left yesterday after my clan mates were kicked for "bad mouthing America" or something.

I agree 100% with everything 1st poster said

Did the server have a rule that assets belonged to the name squads? Not all servers do.

The bottom line is that servers are private property and that's it. There is absolute nothing you can do about it in the world we are living. But that doesn't mean you couldn't still criticize the server admins. I've seen lot of good admins and sometimes terrible admins and everything between them. Some have had bad days and so have I.

You may try to draw some ethical lines, which should be required from a good admin, but you still can not force anyone to obey those. Not as long as no-one does brake the law. And in the game world, how many times you think that could happen?

I agree, and of course the appropriate place to criticize admins are on their respective forums, not during a game and not as a rant on the game's main forums :) Clarifying questions during a game will be fielded with a short answer by any good admin, which happened to the OP during the game and he failed to comply. If his rant was posted on the TG forum he would have received additional opinions from that community explaining why the events transpired in the way that they did.

In general as a commander I don't have a real plan. I never ever tell someone "go build a firebase there" because if they thought they should then they will.

I think commanders are there to coordinate. If a squad wants to build a firebase and he isn't being stupid then I can call the supply squad to help them out.

And you tell some squads to cover one squad or another when one is getting decimated. And give a general goal, and trust that your squad leaders know what they're doing. They're the ones on the ground, they know what's really happening, and dependence on the commander for orders like "Move here and build a firebase" means that the squad leader needs to man up and do what he thinks is best, and the commander simply gives some reports on whether or not it sounds like a good idea.

Commanders are simply people who help the squads out, not order them around.

Yeah, I mean why would a commander command people! Squad leaders shouldn't squad lead either, they should just be there for the whims of their squad members even if those members are across the map doing nothing constructive. It should be just like BF2 vanilla!

Its a videogame, your never going to have any actual authority in your command position unless it is some sort of closed clan game or stated in server rules (unlike Squad leaders who can throw people out of their squad and have people joining it voluntarily).

I dont boss people around when I'm a commander, but I sometimes explain what is smart to do, or provide requests from other squads if they need backup or something, in a quick and respectful way. But my main task is to provide the team with intel I am given, and help them coordinate their efforts for the best of the team.

That's a good one, used quite often here in the states, I in fact do believe in freedom of speech, freedom to criticize one's government, freedom to express one's political and religious views.

Just for clarity here, it seems that a major issue is that some servers will kick or ban for for an occasional slip up of a cuss word. What I am referring to here is the direct attack of sexual or racial nature directed at one or more of the members on the server.

For example, a few years back when we had a pub come on and his opening statement in game chat was " I hear this server is full of MILF's, my replay was, well they are pretty old, you might want to look for another server. He began to make a comment about older women and oral sex. I banned him.

Now I just want to ask, does the community in general think that we are intruding on the rights of free speech here, or are we infact permitting ourselves to limit what we feel is offensive speech. The other night we had some visitors come over to our server, and several of them joined the squad my wife and I were in, a few 'F' bombs got dropped. No problem it happens, we said nothing, however within a few minutes the fellow apologized, without prompt. Good enough for me, good enough for my wife, no offense taken.

So are we over the top? or are we within reasonable limits?

However if you dont want them hearing any of this stuff then unfortunately they will just have to stop playing. The fact is that it's natural for most people when they are relaxing to swear in ther sentences. I think tbh your view is a bit old fashioned and as you do say u need to get with the times so to speak. Everybody that i talk to swears in speech and that is just the way it is. Maybe find another game for your family to play that has a lower age certificate?
Not really, it tells you in our scrolling rules, " we all cuss, we understand that but sexual or racial attacks will get you a ban.

The incident years ago was in a Friches restaurant. Three young fellows came in and sat in a booth behind us, they went on for about 30 minutes, sitting right behind my wife about how they abused this guys wife, quite descriptive. An older couple a few booths down gave up in desperation and just left without eating their food. My wife got frustrated at this point and turned and said something along the lines of, " Come one guys do we really have to hear this during dinner " At this point this young guy turned and screamed in her face " Suck my **** " that's when I hit him.

I got arrested, the Judge dismissed the case and offered me $50.00 towards a pair of boxing gloves.

So again, I ask you, are we over the top?

That's a good story- not a huge fan of seeing people get punched in the face for a reason that doesnt warrant it though. However as good as that story was it doesnt really give a reason for the language filter on a server. This doesnt really represent your rules anyway as i was reported for saying "you just raped us" or something like that and you make a big deal out of it saying i was abusing your wives?!

People play on public servers, People don't like rules on public servers.
Then people create their own servers with rules they like, those that dislike/like those rules don't/do play their.
Everyone's a winner

Moral of the story? Don't like a Server don't play their, Or Create your own server and enjoy the fun, relaxation and enjoyment that goes with it,

not.

Re: Snazz - Everyone agreeing to something is democracy, not communism.

Re: gunner - Rights don't apply to the internet in the way you are asking. I agree it is preferable to allow the occasional slip up and servers that kick for the first offense on a simple 'dirty word' are very few. The few kicks I have seen for a single utterance were for either racial slurs or comments directed to a single player using curses. ie 'that's @#$ awesome!' I've never seen kicked on the first offense anywhere (sure a warning is issued) although I've seen people kicked for cursing the first time that day but had a history of doing so per the admin's following comments. I agree with how you handled your online situations.

I don't like your story, because you say you support free speech but you punched a guy for some words. The judge should not have supported your actions, that simply gives the message that you can hit someone you don't agree with. If you had a problem at a private establishment you should have notified the establishment and either had them removed, or refused to pay when leaving if they did not remove the other people.

Believing it is ok to punch someone because they insulted you is the same as saying it is ok to hit someone with different standards or beliefs. Words are words, battery is battery. If you weren't physically threatened you should not have responded with physical violence.

Yeah man! Freedom of speech on a server thats privately owned!

Too bad people cant grasp that concept. Its their server, they make the rules. Dont like them? Leave. Problem solved.
