1. More realistic and more fun.

It's just, do you want to hear your opponents on mumble or not. It doesn't have anything to do with your own team, which you can still hear in both options.
Seriously? With the 1 channel system people only use mumble when they're far away from the enemy, which kind of goes against the point of mumble. Mumble is used to communicate with people close to you, improving teamwork on a local level, and for SLs to communicate, improving teamwork overall. With the 1 channel system people don't talk on mumble at the front so it's just the same as not having mumble in the first place, with people only using in-game VOIP. Dead people talking and making weird noises to muffle the in-game sounds of their teammates, that is about the only thing mumble is used for.

In a 2 channel system people communicate constantly, squads coordinate on a local level, blue guys link up with other squads while they wait for their squad to return, people break down into smaller groups that can function due to having mumble as a viable communication tool as it allows them to work on a local level without flooding in-game VOIP or giving away their position to the enemy(Who is behind a hill, inside a house, 60m away BTW...).

When people communicate more they naturally cooperate more, it's how we behave. With a 1 channel system mumble penalizes you for using it, making it pointless or even worse because the only practical thing you can use it for on a local level is spamming ****. Teamwork with a 2 channel system is faaaaaar superior.

i totaly agree with this, mumble will punish you if its one channel but with 2 it keeps you interested.
Also if your having trouble with getting on the right channel go onto the one with as little people on and then join that tema in-game therefore your promoting that team to use mumble.

Two channels is the only acceptable option in my book.

I say one channel and disable VOIP. Now that's real hardcore and I suppose realistic?

2 channels for many of the reasons stated above. I don't play PR to get T-bagged and have people talking to me on mumble from the other team and I like to communicate to other blue guys when the enemy is near without worrying if they can hear me through a wall.

Or you could just look at the player list and look for similar names. I never ask and always go in the coorect mumble channel by this way and geuss what, unless the channels are severly screwed after a restart I'm in the right one just by looking at the names and not asking everyone.

I don't fly much but I can imagine the chatter you half-hear as you fly over everyone as Mumble can't position vertically. I bet it can be annoying for jet pilots.
When you get to a high altitude in jets or choppers(think its around 1000) then mumble delinks its self the same as it would in the CO trailer so you hear every bit of local speach no matter where it is on the map. Does anyone know if its possible to mute local mumble but not the SL radio?

Theres an option to local mute, but you would have to local mute everyone in the mumble channel, and I'm not sure if that'd even work.

2 channels as 1 encourages people to use voip to not be heard by the enemy.

I enjoy 1 channel better, but there are always people who insist there must be 2. Which is retarded.

If you have the possibility to use VoIP (IE in the same squad) you shouldnt be using mumble anyway (with a few exceptions).

Care to elaborate? or "which is retarded" the extent of your argument?

yeah, lower latency and higher quality should be avoided at all times.

For example, was playing on mumble server recently and squad leader was basically using mumble all the time. end result = squad couldn't hear him 80% of the time, wandered off and he got angry and left.

Lower latency, by a few ms and better quality ? unless ur separated slightly then it because hard to hear. still see no reason to use mumble in a squad (unless 2 guys a separated and need to talk alot or APC in squad to clear coms.)

Another example, when in your squad on silent eagle on TG last week or whenever, we used mumble when pissing about but when it "serious" mode we all used VoIP, why was that? :D

well that was just silly of him

As a squad leader you need coms skills

Relevant to Team with low urgency - Tell commander
Relevent to Team with high urgency - Tell other SLs over radio
Relevant to entire squad/squad member far away - VOIP
Relevant to local fireteam (blue/green/whateveR) - Mumble

when that grenade lands next to you, those few ms you gain using mumble really can mean alive or dead :P

Oh that's interesting, I didn't know that (I am not allowed in planes ... as I rarely leave the runway intact). I will have a word with Snares about that. It sounds more like a bug to do with bounds than a limitation. It can probably be fixed.

What is the best mumble server to play on?

Most don't have many people playing.

TG or the new PMC are the only ones i find with any sort of sizable population.
