Im only assuming here, but im guessing its "all or nothing". As far as i know in BF2 you cant pick up individual weapons from kits, you cant have deviation suddenly made worst because you picked up a weapon your soldier isn't familiar with , and you cant have it so you restrict where people can reload (ie an US HAT at an INS cache).

All of these made the old system ("all") unrealistic. And of course the new system is unrealistic as well, as ideally you could pick up these kits but not reload them at your teams ammo sources and not be proficient in their use, but as far as i know these are not possible to implement .

So both the new and the old system is unrealistic. So it comes down to gameplay, which is best for gameplay ? arguably the new system. Especially on the insurgency where in the old versions after about 30 mins your basically playing another conventional team due to all the pick up kits.

Dev reasoning:

https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f196-p ... ost1462396

I also find it ironic that you say all this stuff about "realism" even though the old system is unrealistic and then you suggest the implementation of a weapon that (as far as i know, please correct me) that is exclusively used by US special operations forces ?

Sounds like a quote right from Wikipedia. No offense intended, but this is sort of what I'm referring to. Just because it's in Wiki doesn't make it true or even complete.

Also no offense intended when I say this... Just because someone served in the Military doesn't mean they know jack about Infantry weapons and tactics. Sure everyone receives "basic" infantry training, but that's where it ends. Real Infantry stuff begins with dedicated schools, and lots of time on rifle ranges, not to mention MILES and MILES of Infantry Lane Training. Infantry units fire there weapons a lot more than any Combat Support unit during the year. Most Combat Support units get range time ONCE per year, and that is to QUALIFY with their issued weapon. I'm not slamming Combat Support units, I'm just stating how it is. In contrast Spec Ops business requires SO MUCH more in depth training to "specialize" in their given task/mission. Also sniper platoons spend so much time on the range it's not even funny.

See my point... no, I'll keep going then.

Just because someone served as a M1A2 tank driver or gunner doesn't mean they know jack about Infantry warfare, and even less so about special operations units and scout/sniper operations. I served in the Military, but that doesn't mean I know how the Mess Sgt did his job. Nor do I know how he fed hundreds or thousands of troops in one day. All I knew was, when I was a young Private on KP duty, my mission was to bust some suds on those dam pots, pans, and cooking utensils. Making Corporal was a great day, cause it meant no more KP for me :)

See where I'm going with this.... of course not.

Anyway,

SDMs ARE at company/ battalion level, and have been for some time. Seems almost no one on the Dev team wants to hear from any"real Infantry soldiers". Guess that's why they ran off WNxKenwayy. Dam shame though. This mod could have benefited GREATLY from his knowledge and expertise on all things INFANTRY, but it fell on deaf ears. I suppose he got tired of beating his head against a wall. Same goes for me, and several others as I recall.

Still not seeing where I'm coming from... Ok then.

As far as your comment concerning "ironic" goes. Sure the "old system" had it's realism issues. I understand there are limitations to the game engine, but that doesn't mean someone should take the liberty to pull stuff out of their butt, and call it "realism". I have an idea, just change the name of the mod to "Somewhat Reality Mod" and it should fix everything :) At least then new players will be able to judge this book by it's cover. There are weapons in game that are more accurate than they should be, but there are also weapons in game that aren't accurate enough, so let's not confuse the gaming public, and call it "realism"

UAV is gone? I had trouble finding it too.

Someone atleast needs to take the devation out of .8 and put it in the new junky *** release.
They say deviation hasn't been changed. And what's the deal? I find weapons to be accurate enough, but assault rifles take painfully long to settle down. It's O.K. for sniper rifles and LMGs' bur assault rifles should be more mobile.

What you posted seems largely irrelevant to what i said and real vague, though i get your point. I dont know any specifics about WNxKenwayy, though i know of him as hes posted on here before.

As for the name, i dont believe PR has ever strived to be as realistic as possible (or as much as the engine allows) and does value gameplay over 'realism'. Though as i said, the new system is in ways.. more realistic, that that is debatable.

You also said:
Well, First and foremost I'd like to see "REALITY" put back in PR. I mean after all it is part of the mods name. But that would take someone with "real" knowledge instead of relying on Wikipedia
Yet give no examples of improving the "reality" , and also seemed to insult the serving members of the DEV team...

Is changed many times, but to put it simply, imagine deviation with rifles that are 10 times less accurate than now, and you have 0.8 deviation.

Sorry, LESS ACCURATE? Oh, thanks! Now I remember why I stopped playing 0.8 after just several hours and didn?t come back until the next release.

DO NOT WANT

Gameplay is slow-paced enough already.

Give us some credit. It's from this article I read three years ago on marines.mil (then usmc.mil) and posted on the DEV forums as a heads-up.

II MEF Marines receive training on new rifle

Our model was not up to snuff and we wanted to make a new one if we ever implemented it.

I've been continuing to follow stories and captions on the site about the weapon and where it has ended up since, and sometimes they say a "designated marksman with # squad/platoon/battalion or X company," without specifying if he is a member of that unit or attached. And if I don't know something, I go to someone who would know and ask them, provided it does not violate OPSEC or PERSEC.

Hi guys haven't posted in...opps...it's been years! To qualify myself; I'm one of those gone missing early players (.3 PR mini mod) mentioned. I was also one of the PITclan guys that played in the very first PR league match....You Devs remember that match...yes? That's what happens when a few Q3 FPS oriented players takes on a few C&C RTS oriented players in a match. A mash-up!

Just because I'm good at gunning doesn't mean I didn't love the bleed-out as well as the other realistic BF2'oob corrective aspects of PR. I seriously loved this game and community more than any other I've ever played or been involved with. In fact my broken heart hasn't healed since implementation of the "realistic" deviation.

I'm posting because a few people have mentioned the wish to implement the old style. Here is my wish:

My wish would be a new Developer sponsored PR mini mod with the old more reactive play style implemented. Come on guys bring us veteran shooters back to the family. You know you miss us...sniff sob...don't you?

Tell me about it 8)
That "realistic" deviation is supposed to represent some sort of realistic sway after sprinting too much, right? But it so much....doesn't work. Can't wait till PR switches to a new engine that supports a proper swaying.

Indeed, or at least re-skin the game to musket wars where enemies stopped and stared each other down before firing. At least that's what it felt like last time I played PR....sigh

Rico11b wrote:OMG!!!

Seriously, someone asked "what would you like to see back in PR".

Well, First and foremost I'd like to see "REALITY" put back in PR. I mean after all it is part of the mods name. But that would take someone with "real" knowledge instead of relying on Wikipedia. It seems that the mod is getting less "real" with every release. If you do have "advisers", either you aren't listening to them or they don't know what they are talking about. Not sure which one.

Ya know it's funny how a few Devs are "tailoring" the game to suit them instead of making it realistic and letting the game and weapons balance themselves. An example would be that now you can't kill a brit and take his HAT, because one Dev is tired of getting pwned by insurgents. Not being able to use the enemies kits is about as unrealistic as it gets.

Also I'd like to see the SPR return the game. But I guess it's not needed since you can pixel shoot anyone with any rifle in game. Nice "reality" there kido. What ever happened to "tactics" and teamwork to take an objective?
About the hat kit...If a Taliban in REAL LIFE picks up an American or NATO hat kit for whatever reason, do you think he would just automatically know how to arm and fire it? Im not trying to come down on you. Im just stating a response.

Above everything else: training maps. PR is getting more complex with every release. Co-op isn't a remotely suitable replacement, it's something else entirely. Training maps were great to try every kit, every weapon and, most importantly, the vehicles. In the absence of a training mode, it's too hard to learn the new features in a low-responsibility environment.
