T.A.Sharps wrote:VOIP doesn't overtake what you hear on Mumble, so that wouldn't work. VOIP is almost totally muted under anyone on Mumble due to the difference in sound quality.
VoIP should and does sound louder that most things in game, IIRC it even suppresses game sounds. Mumble SL channel might be louder for some, but he proximity wont be. If proximity based mumble is louder than VoIP you need to adjust your sound settings.
T.A.Sharps wrote:So, you're to blame for all this!
Partly i guess, Your welcome.

If your struggling to hear VoIP (which is louder than mumble) of course you will have problems, adjust your sound settings, prioritize VoIP.
T.A.Sharps wrote:Mumble is cool, but it isn't there yet.
Its been there for a while, its not finished but its already revolutionized PR gameplay and teamwork.

I'm glad I and others don't have a clue. I play PR for fun and as long as chatter is kept to a minimum I don't need the stiff RL radio discipline.

I don't mean knowing when to say over when to say out and all that bollocks, I mean being concise, this is where people are FAILING.

pick which is the best of these two

"squad 4, this is squad 3, please move up and cover on our NW side"

"squad 4, I'd really like it if you would move up a bit so that our NW side is more covered just in case some enemy comes from that direction"

thats right, the first one is better

I think it goes without saying that if your asking someone to cover a side of your force...you're expecting the enemy.

also notice on the second comms you don't identify yourself, which necessitates this...

"this is squad 4, which squad is calling us?"

more and more and more coms built up because the first communique was NOT well delivered.

by this point there's probably a squad (lets call them squad 2) who are in heavy fighting in say...north bunkers. SL2 is trying to find his medic kit because the medic is down, but HE CAN'T HEAR HIM OVER THE SL CHATTER.

Coms make and break battles in this game

keep it short

keep it concise

keep it necessary (radio weapon is there to be used!)

when possible don't use the SL radio at all, especially on 1k/2k maps you can often just walk over and talk to the guy directly!

as I said...

this isn't about saying 'over and out' correctly, its not even about being realistic, its about using some common sense tbh.

T.A.Sharps;1612576 Negatives: - Too many people around, can't hear orders. - Takes too long to recognize who is talking. - You never know who is on Mumble and who isn't. - Too easy to loose contact with the squad and the SL. - Too quiet at distance when SHTF, unless you turn down all your sound effects. - Only certain servers run with Mumble. - [u wrote:Even on Mumble servers/squads[/u] mostly only use Mumble as a back up comm.

- On actual good servers, people aren't just spamming mumble like retards. You use mumble for talking with other people outside your squad, or inside if you're spread out.
- PEBKAC. Overlay support may be added in the future.
- PEBKAC. It takes 2 seconds to ask, and if you have a second monitor you can have it setup to see who's in your channel. It's easy to setup as well.
- PEBKAC. How does being on mumble make it "too easy to lose contact with squad and SL"?
- If you setup mumble according to the setup page, you shouldn't have this problem. It takes a minute or two to set this up properly. Again, PEBKAC.
- It depends how you play PR. You can use mumble for pure coms, but you don't use it like a radio. You use it like talking. You use B for talking in squad (or TS, depending on your clan status) and V for commander. It's quite simple.

*forum slap* this is a game that is supposed to entertain using real-life-like gameplay. And at the end of the day entertaining means winning. In certain situations proper comms is making it a win or a loose. And also, not having a clue is not a desirable quality.

Good old reality-like gameplay vs. vanilla-like gameplay. I apologize for joining it, hehe.

EX-FKKN-ACTLY!

About those "first communique": had a guy today saying in SL channel "enemy on my dead body, there is an enemy on my dead body, watch out"... Ok...

He meant it...

You don't know my opinions about PR in general so there's no need for you to assume I think this or that.

I simply believe in keeping a clear-drawn boundary between real life and a video game. Rudds extensive response is something I agree with, and practice myself. With my initial comment that you seem to have taken far too literally I meant when people start treating the comms and gameplay like real-life the fun stops. Like Rudd mentioned, using common sense is all you need in a game like this, you don't need to know the proper communication procedures.

Winning isn't everything, but it gives us a feeling of achievement. I don't want to win at any cost.

You can do that in a tournament or else organised match but in a public game you have to 'persuade' that squad leader that doing what you asked will be entertaining and he won't regret spending the time.

Nervous? Come on, it's a game after all. There are some mad people in the community, but most of PR playerbase (at least the ones I know) are beginner friendly. As always, communication is the key. If something doesn't feel right when using mumble ingame, tell your squadmates that you don't have experience with it and describe the problem.

Here's a good Mumble guide (to boost up your confidence), if you haven't already seen one.

If anyone is using the SL channel wrong. Its me. I use it as Squad radio with other SLs. Its strange really.
