Or are there some other underlying issues?
exporting to .3ds or .obj often crates lots of errors, such as the loss of smoothing groups or some smoothing groups getting corrupt and lots of things like that.
Its FAR better for everyone to be working on the same version of max, hence why we all are working with max 9, apart from katarn who insists to work with max9 SP2 which has problems exporting to bf2, but luckily normal max9 can still open max9 SP2 files, so chuc ends up having to export all of katarns stuff

and fist is taking care of mine lol, max9sp2 fixes the bugs max has on vista. have you found another way to fix that rhino btw since i'd rather be running pure max9 but vista goes all fubar when i try and do that.

what export problems SP2 has? because on win7 pure max9 said GTFO to me(iirc it couldn't use texture in .DDS format for example, other random errors)
i tried exporting some models as simple static meshes and it worked, or those problems appear with more complicated stuff?

This is what I have been working on to learn it's not finished (no magazine) and it hasn't been smoothed yet still learning but it's what I have so far.

I'm sort of following the Beretta 9000 tut but I chose to do a Glock instead

I have finished the magazine and optimized and smoothed now I just have to texture it but I don't think I will be able to import it to BF2 I've lost my CD key ages ago
I'm going to try and do a render in the mean time.
OK here is a quick render

A G36 Highpolymodel I'm currently working on, still W.I.P. of course (418,000 Polys so far):

G36 looking very good, way to detailed for a game engine

Highpoly -> bake normals -> build lowpoly = win.

Yes, I will

It's the first gun that I model this way.
Let's see if it works

Looking good so far how many poly's are you at now? And how long has it taken you to do that much I need to get into the bigger guns myself but I'm currently working on a plane(spitfire).

How do you make these holes in the handguard ?
Boolean or a "-"t load of poly's ?

dont mean to rez a thread, but just for friendly criticism, the barrel looks a WEEeeeeee bit small as it approaches the handguard. might be the angle of the shot but meh, just some food for thought.
