UAV information is explained in the PR Manual:
The commander of conventional forces and the militia is able to control an
unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) from his team's command post or armored
command vehicle (ACV). The UAV in Project Reality does not reveal enemy
positions automatically but gives the commander the means to survey the
battlefield visually. The commander can control the UAV's camera while it
cruises at a constant altitude.
  • The UAV is launched by placing the UAV marker on the command map. It takes 3 minutes for the UAV to reach the target area.
  • The camera has three magnification settings switched with the pop smoke key
(default: X) and can operate in normal and thermal mode (selectable using 1 & 2).
In thermal mode it can be used to mark targets with a laser. These targets stay
    marked for 30 seconds.
  • The UAV can be relocated by assigning it a new position on the map. It will take
another 3 minutes to reach the new location.
  • After a flight time of about 20 minutes the UAV needs to be refueled. Refueling the
    UAV takes 10 minutes.
The militia's UAV only offers a greyscale TV picture and limited magnification.
Thermal imaging and laser targeting are not available to the militia.

Insurgents and other irregular forces (except for the militia) do not have access
to the UAV. They can gain some intelligence on enemy troop movement by
sending out informants. This is simply done by placing waypoints at the
locations where you want the informants to head to. About 5 minutes after
placing a waypoint the informant will be on location and report if there are
multiple enemies in his area (6 or more). The reports take about 30 to 60
seconds to reach the commander and can be used to determine where the
opposition is approaching from.
Just make sure your "marker" box is full then right click on your commander map and select UAV from the menu. Wherever you place the marker is where the UAV will fly to.

To lase a target, push the 2 key on your keyboard to switch to thermals then use your mouse to lase.

Forgive me for this noob question, but how does one use the UAV on USMC forces in Muttrah City map? From the ship? I can't seem to find how to use it, and I've not been around long enough to see the UAV used on muttrah before.

Thanks in advance!

Brezmans, no prob.

To use the UAV on muthrah, you gotta have the docks capped, go to the VCP, and you will find the tent!!

Oh and chain mate, thats because of some servers...

For example, you cant use the UAV on certain factions..., and you cant use the UAV on the Merk training server

You enter the UAV trailer in the carrier which is located on the elevated sections. Kind of hard to explain without having a picture but pretty much spawn on the carrier and go the direction as if you were heading to the attack huey and you should see a ladder on your right side. Climb it and you'll see it.

Hmmm, I think your right lol... Because I used the UAV on muthrah, and I cant remeber where that tent is :p

On the carrier indeed, I found it now :) thanks guys!

Also, I noticed something odd. I was alone on the server, testing the UAV. I capped docks and went back to carrier. Then I used the UAV for about 10 minutes, flying above North City and West City. After the UAV needed refueling, I noticed I/UAV had capped the NC and WC flags.

This might be a bug, but it's not that huge: I did not get the cap points AND I was alone in my team.

BUT: I think it's possible to use the UAV to help cap a flag, no? Since I was able to cap flags using solely the UAV, my guess is that it is counted as a friendly presence in the area and thus helps cap.

Or is this old information?

The UAV cant cap a flag

Then how do you explain the two capped flags when I was all alone on server and on the carrier?
Facts:
1. when alone in a server, one person can cap flags (premisse 1)
2. When sitting on carrier, it is impossible for anyone to cap the NC and WC flags. One has to be in the caprange. (premisse 2)
3. I was alone on server
4. I capped the docks flag before returning to carrier. I did not move near the NC flag.
5. I flew the UAV over NC and WC while standing in the command post on the carrier
6. The NC and WC flags were capped by the time I was done flying the UAV (around 15 mins total).

.:. Either there is a bug where the commander can cap flags while standing alone on carrier or the commander can cap flags while using the UAV while standing on carrier and being alone on the team.

I did not hallucinate, will try to make screenshots next time.

when you are alone on a server it only takes one man to cap flags

the UAV must have strayed in range of the flag, allowing you to cap, no worries

I tried lasing with the UAV while I was in thermal view pressing my primary firebutton (left click). I didnt see the green square. Am I supposed to see anything when I lase or I get any notification at all?
