Hello everyone,

I have always seen those mass CTD's while playing PR, and I was never affected by them.
Recently I started using mumble more, and so I tried the mumble overlay. Later, while playing, I was affected by a mass CTD, for the first time ever.

After playing around with my own private server, I found that 100% of the times I requested a PBSS from a client with mumble overlay, it would immediately crash that client, and 100% of the times that same client had mumble overlay OFF, it would take the PBSS as normally.

So I came to the conclusion, that whenever the server automatically take a PBSS from everyone, those with mumble overlay get a CTD.

I thought I'd share this and maybe this could be fixed to avoid mass CTD's.

Just disable the overlay and you should have problems . .

I have used Mumble for ages and have not experienced any correlation between Mumble overlay and mass CTD's.

However, this is quite interesting and something I've never heard of before:

there could be be a link between the overlay and the crashes. ive read things about overlays making the PBSS (punkbuster screenshot?) black etc. could be possible taht some people crash because of this.
but if everyone using the overlay would crash when pb is making a ss... well then there would be much more crashes i think. pb is making many screenshots i guess?

PBSS's are pretty pointless these days with BR and PRbot, i see no point in actually taking a screen shot.

I assume the server I usually play on (NwA) is configured to take a PBSS from everybody at certain times, and that's when people with overlay get a CTD.

Not Mass CTDs, but for some reason overlay manages to crash me just fine. Its totally random though and seems to have lessened with the latest patch.

As epic as the PR mod is, the BF 2 plattform will go down into the annals of gaming for its bugginess.

pbss are for detecting esps and wallhacks.... and the PR devs would never ever weaken the anti cheat protection or PR.

Other overlays such as ATI Tray Tools cause a CTD because they seem to fight for space with mumble. You sure you don't have a conflicting overlay causing all this?

I always have Mumble Overlay, every game, and almost never CTD you see.

No overlays. Got NVIDIA card anyway .
Well if you have overlay on and almost never CTD then who knows... I just thought I had solved the mystery of the mass CTD's

I don't use overlay and have never ever CTD.

I've been using overlay all the time in 0.5 beta. I have never ever had problems of any kind with it, neither have I seen any mass CTD's. Even my computer is low end.

So you cannot be 100% sure that overlay causes CTDs.
