U.S. NAVY Abandons the Marines?

Just wondering since the MArines are an important part to the Navy and launch from the Essex why the team doesn't get Jets than can take off from the carrier for support.

Since we are moving towards the 128 man layout in the future should the r-devs use the new 2 teams per side like a US/USMC vs MEC layout ?

Because the Essex doesn't have the capacity to launch airplanes.

'BAM!' . . . haha yeah thats why with Regular BF2 the carrier always has an F35 because of its vertical lift capability. . . there are models in the works by a couple different mods with plans for large scale air craft carriers but in the long run . . is it really worth the trouble??

Pr is mainly about infintry and ground tactics. not all out Bombing runs and Air to Air combat.

Not 100% true, the USS Essex is not capble of launching CATOBAR aircraft like a conventional aircraft carrier no, but it can launch STOVL aircraft like the Harrier AV-8B (which it always has a few of them on board) and F-35B in the future.

xambone it would be nice if you can do some research on google and search these forums for similar topics before posting...

For a start, the USMC have there own jets in r/l, currently the AV-8B Harrier and F/A-18 but will soon be equipped with F-35Bs and a few F-35Cs too so the USMC dosen't directly need air support from the US Navy, although they do regularly get it.

The reason why we don't have any AV-8B Harriers or F-35Bs on the deck of the USS Essex is quite simple, which if you did a quick search you would have quickly found the answer in multiple topics, just picked this one really quickly: https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f10-pr ... ost1365457
'[R-DEV wrote:Rhino;1365457']This has all been talked about before.

The CH-46 Sea Knight is going out of service and as such would be a waste of time modelling for BF2, its being replaced by the V22.

The AV-8B Harrier we have, but we do not have a map large enough to use it on yet. Once we have a map for it then you will see it ingame.

The CH-53 Sea Stallion we do not have a model for and probably dose not have that much more life in it before it goes out of service as well. Again the V22 dose pretty much everything it can do.

The V22 which you missed off your list we do have a model for donated to us from the RC mod when they shut down. How ever the model is pretty low quality and it is unlikely we will use it, thou we might use it as a place holder at some point until we get a new V22 model. Again like the AV-8B Harrier, we need a very large map in order to make it useful.

I hope that answers all your questions, basically if you want to see the other stuff on there, we need larger maps and if you want that a good plan would be to look into making a new 4km map for the USS Essex yourself ;)

If there was a 4k sea assault then a jet becomes a realistic prospect, but on a 2k its just completely retarded, even if you fly in a tight circle you'll be hard pressed not to enter the surrounding terrain

Well instead of a jet in 2k maps shouldn't we be able to get more "arty" or J-dam support instead...

could use the british GR9 harrier and reskin it to the usmc variant, but then again its ridicules to have a jet on a 2km map.

lets take...muttrah

give USMC JDAMs every 10mins, and MEC artillery every 5minutes?

I mean...the MEC artillery isn't gonna abandon their infantry either mate :)

being killed by offmap support isn't the most fun in the world for anyone, hence its not hugely common ingame (but moreso now thanks to the commander UAV)

what about making Muttrah bigger? both the city and the surrounding landscape/ocean, make it SO big that every one would get lost in the city and then they are surrounded by MEC inf and armor but then out of nowhere harriers appear and rape the MEC inf and armor and save the day :-P

Then comes the Huey's and airlift the US guys out of the area without purposes or sense of direction (totally of topic)

BUT it would be awesome with a bigger Muttrah city map adding Harriers or on OP Barracuda.

It would require a little more than just a "reskin" to make the AV-8B since there are quite some significant differences between the two but we did make the AV-8B when we made the GR9 so you don't need to worry about that.

There is a very good reason why I didn't make Muttrah in 4km as it simply wouldn't have worked and I really can't be asked to go into why again. If you really want to know, search for my posts on the matter :p

LOL 10 min jdam? I was thinking more along the lines of every 30 or 40 mins instead of 60, most rounds dont last more than 2 hours. UAV is a big help considering its an eye in the sky, but i would imagine more j-dams would be used in the scenerio

Collateral damage? The storyline of Muttrah is that the USMC is liberating it from the MEC and as such, flattening the city isn't really in the intrastate of the USMC...

5000lb bombs in populated cities gains you no points, you do not pass go nor do you collect $200

Muttrah is pretty much balanced as it is, changing the parameters you suggest, gains us nothing, especially as you keep avoiding the balance issue with your suggestion.

nope :p

Its just one I have in my head which I crated the map around. There is no point writing it down as all it would do is make things less flexible.

I would much rather are muttrah as a clean insurgency than an 4km with jets.

I think there is 3 WIP 4km maps that could have the Harrier, there is Wake Island remake and the Jabal Al Burj remake, but I'm not so sure on it's status right now, as the projects are on and off.

There is another 4km map involving the new Africa faction, but I forgot the name.
