Here is a challenge for anyone who is interested to compose the cheapest computer he can come up with, to run PR on max. Ebay is allowed, but only new parts. Everything but the case and harddrive has to to be bought.

Liking the way you camouflaged a "PC Build Help"-thread to something more fun!
Problem I see here:
--> Screen size and resolution --> graphics card --> price of the whole thing!
I mean I play on a HD5770 in 1920*1200. Now I can't max everything out! So I would need a better/more expensive card to achieve the "MAX" attribute.
Before i played in 1680*1050. Back then I could max everything out with minor framedrops.
Before that i played in 1280*1024 and I would not understand all the "low performance"-threads at all

since I ran in 75Hz with max frames.
Anyway, does "everything needs to be bought" include the OS?

Nah We will assume that people are already running an PR compatible OS, so Win 98SE or newer. Good point about the resolution. Minimum resolution should be 1280 X 1024

This probably isnt exactly the response you want, but I would say that just about any generaic "gaming build" offered at a retail store like Best buy would handle PR on max settings. Really it comes down to the graphics card. As long as you have a decent processor (like an i5) and a reasonable graphics card, then you can run PR no problem. It uses an old and outdated engine, so it really shouldnt take much to run it.

Yeah it doesnt. I just wanted to show peeps just how cheap it is. I got my computer for 300 Teuros which includes and hd 5850 I bought on ebay. Same conditions, I bought everything but the harddrive and case.

My PC can't even run.
When I execute PR, I sometimes crash with max graphs
Have not tried .96 yet, hopefully it's been fixed!

Amd 3500+ 2.2 GHz
4 Gb pc5300 ram
Ati HD4870 512mb
WinXP 32 bit (so only 3 Gb of ram being used.)
Running @ 1920x1080 at mostly medium, max view distance.
15-20 fps on fallujah and similar tough maps. 40+ at the more open maps.
You really need more than 2.2 Ghz of clockspeed/coreclock to run PR good.

Buy a strong CPU and you should be ok to play PR, I used to have a amd4600+ and a GTS250, when I switched to a i7 my problems with this game were finished.

With i7, problems with your games are finished, not with your wallet tho.

eBay is allowed but only new parts? Why?
A PC like mine can run all maxed out on 1920x1200 and I built it in 2008! (but spent ?60 on a new GPU last month).
Only things you actually need:
ATI4850 or higher.
Any Dual Core CPU capable of about 2.8Ghz in each core.
4GB 1200mhz RAM.
Entry level PSU.
Everything else could be bog standard and you would be able to max out PR.
A PC like that sold on eBay two years ago for 400 GBP. I presume nowadays you could buy a full second hand tower for about 250-300GBP and then if you wanted buy a SSD for ArmA2 and a load of peripherals.

You posted RAM, mobo, and heatsink twice. Also, the 550 is a pretty terrible graphics card, the least you want is a 570.
