Friend.

Sapphire 5870 1gig - $150

Currently:

XFX 4890 1gig

Good deal? (seeing how i may want to play BF3....)

(too lazy to type.)

(also, it's bottlenecking my arma 2. Pretty sure my i7 2600k should be doing fine.. and it is. Improved me from 13fps (at 800m) low to 58fps when i'm standing in the middle of a very very small village in takistan. (everything pretty much High, shadows at normal. oddly, i get 40ish fps with shadows on Very high... which is odd... (supposedly a performance INCREASE?) (at 5000m)

ok if it has 1600 Stream Processing Units or a Dual GPU then yes but if not no

but i payed $185 for an XFX Radeon HD 5870 and it has 1600 Stream Processing Units and works good for arma 2 and get 25 fps on normal graphics with a view distance of 4000 meters

Buying 5870 is not long term investment from my point of view. You will gain that small amount of performance boost but after year you will need go for new card. Better get more 50 bucks and buy 68xx series or GTX 560 series, these will last longer ;)

Buy another card. Investing cheap video card money in last generation's card is not a winning strategy, and you'll regret it.

Hm....

I will make my decision if it's the model i want...

i know it's not "future proof", but I do need a little more power for some of the games i play, and honestly, from what it looked like, the 5870 was giving out about a 10-40 fps increase compared to my card..... so...

and if it's a 2gb card then.. that's an improvement as well. (mines having an issue with that for-some-reason.)

Thing is: I want to save up for a trip.

Plus, i have a feeling there's going to be a BIG performance increase in about a year or two (it's getting to that time in the cycle *cough* consoles *cough*)

So... I think i'll just wait for something nice and big. (specifically, till i'm not working at mcdonalds and i'm not planing a trip to indiana and new york...)

I say, No deal. Mainly because come Q4 of this year the 7000 series from ATI will be out, (with vast power and performance upgrades than previous cards) as well as Nvidia's 600 series.

Also, don't expect any more powerful consoles until at least 2013 (see Nvidias roadmap, new series of chips/ die size outing then).

But Q4 this year or maybe Q1 next, will see a large improvement due to again, a smaller die size.
