For 550 Euros, which according to retailers Europe F you math (EFY) should translate to 550 Dollars, you can pick up a 4096MB PowerColor Radeon HD 6990 GDDR5 PCIe, which is almost 4 times as fast as the Radeaon ATI 5850 which sells for around 150 Dollars.

What was the last high end graficcard and how long did it last? How long would you expect this one to last you untill you have to reinvest to play on high to very high settings?

Well, buying HD 6990 or GTX 590 is the same buying two HD 6970's (I guess) or two GTX 580's and putting them in crossfire or SLi. Well, you know, PC hardware is not future proof, but if you get something like that, I guess you will be using it for some time - my guess - 3-4 years, maybe five and after that will start see its not enough (things like no support for better DX version and other things). Well, If I had money, I would go for it. ;)

Buying one card with both is worse than buying both seperately, and more expensive...(unless of course your motherboard doesnt support SLI or crossfire, then its your only option). The better option is to go for cards 1 or two down from the top of the range, and possibly SLI or crossfire them. I bought 2 overclocked 570GTX's and they perform nearly as well as two stock 580GTX's and for ?200 less (it was ?100 more for each 580).

However if you can wait, wait until Q4 this year, or Q1 next year, the graphics cards are coming.....

Also I had the 8800GTX from about 4 years ago in an old Dell XPS 710 pc, and well, it still goes like a dream, can't run every new game on high at full FPS, but does pretty well.

So possibly if your a fa of ATI then go for two 6870's or 6970s. The reason why buying them seperately helps, is pure power. Putting both on one card means 1. Temp increase due to less room for heatsinks and cooling stuff. and 2. The power draw needed by the cards to run at full oomph (or more) is too much for the industry standards allowed. (Hence why the 590 is declocked).
