HAT kit on INS maps post .95

There was a lot of debate about using HAT kits on insurgent maps prior to the changes that were introduced in .95 (I think thats the release that removed insurgents ability to pick up and use HAT kits) The general consensus was that it was a bad idea. You get killed, the insurgents take your HAT kit and now you have given them the best defense possible against all your heavy armor. I always argued in favor of it, since real life soldiers use javelins/milans etc in places like Afghanistan and Iraq. But I never really won that argument.

Alas that debate was over after .95 was released. Now if you die with a HAT kit (and a few other specialized kits) the insurgents cant pick it up and use it. Which I always thought was more realistic anyway, considering in real life they would probably have no clue how to use it and definitely wouldnt be able to rearm it. So with those changes in place, is it now considered acceptable to use a HAT kit on an insurgency map? I think so. They are quite useful against techies, bomb cars, big red/gary, static targets and masses of insurgents. You cant lose the kit to them anymore, so the main drawback is no longer an issue. I would like to hear other peoples opinions on this.

I'm fairly sure a skilled player has just enough time to equip and fire an enemy HAT against a stationary target. In addition they can still pick up the kit every 5 minutes to keep it from returning to the other teams kit-pool.

So the old issues are still present, only on a much smaller scale. However since it's so cumbersome to steal the kit nowadays it's rarely done, so the advantages of using it probably outweighs the risk of getting HAT'd back. But I would still keep it away from insurgent-heavy areas and not have it as part of an assaulting squad, but more of a support element.

I can attest to the ins ability to use the HAT kit, it's just very very situational. I personally love HAT sniping anything worth a missile, and since the change the risk of the enemy turning the kit against you is very slight. Much better then having all 4 HAT kits on one team in AAS as well.

I have used NATO HAT kit on most of INS maps, taking out LAV's, AAVP's, Bradley's...

It is a matter of knowledge in that and you'll have the best weapon in the game.

Irl, they might just google it, who knows O_o

And if I can't use a kit ingame, I just pick it up, hide it or if I'm really bored and the kit is like a sniper rifle that belongs to BlueFOR, I just sit and cycle it so they wont get it respawned xD

/CC

I dont think that the result is acceptable in comparison to the lame kit switching you have to do all the time to make sure you wont die.

and i also doubt that its worth to spend the whole round cycling a kit when you can get out there and do much more useful things for your team....

its just annoying that some people just spend their time to piss of players in the enemy team who wont get their kit back and are in an asset squad for example....

For example the AT4 (the US LAT in PR) has "how to use" written on it.... I bet it comes in different languages but the main language is probably English. You still need experience in order to hit a moving target though that i doubt any "non military" people have.

I like that you cant pick-up enemy special kits... Even if you could pick up the advanced kit and fire it you wouldn't be as effective as a trained soldier....and since it is impossible to tweak the weapon depending on who is holding them I think denying its use is the best way.

They could lower the "drop your kit" grace period to 10 seconds I think since then it would be impossible to fire a HAT even if you wanted to. 10 seconds is enough to grab the enemy patch or to realise you did a mistake.

LAT can be used by any faction.. ;)

It was an excellent decision by the devs that greatly improved gameplay on insurgency. There are no more players whose only aim was to "steal" blufor kits. It encourages teamwork and unconventional warfare.

It only blanks out your screen, and you can still fire the HAT at a stable target. It's not as common, however, because you have to pick it up and drop it so you can see where you are going.

Other then that, you can still use it. They should have a 10 second death for it, or whatever, to avoid people using it. Right now, it's not enough =P

I'm no expert but I believe the kit counter is reset after the person that requested and carried that kit dies. Hence why a team can sometimes have more than 2 snipers or HATs. (because person 1 died and person 2 and 3 requested new ones while person 1 went back to pick up his kit)
So cycling it will actually have them have 3 snipers in the end should they recapture yours as your method won't affect availability.

Thats wrong. the respawn timer is reset AFTER the previous kit disappeared fromt he battlefield. so when youre cycling it, it wont get in the respawn queu again

He's right. On hardcore the other day I was able to score 2 warrior and 1 scimitar kill on Al Basrah, so I still consider it a dangerous kit if given to the wrong hands.

its quite realistic to lock HAT kit for insurgents. but it should be fair now and shishas should be locked for bluefor

It's realistic to lock the HAT kit for insurgents, but I'm sure that Hamas and Taliban know how to operate these as they use even more complicated weapons than that irl.

It's a bit silly that the LAT kit is useable in my opinion. I prefer to play Insurgents, but it's a bit ridiculous that a squad will take a tank-killer into Basrah instead of a lighter bunker-busting AT4, just because the Ins side won;t be able to use the HAT [as] effectively.

if you had the choice to destroy a target from a safe 1000-2000 m distance or from 300-500 m, what would you prefer as an officer?

Maybe specific guys whove had specialized training on them but your playing the average 'trooper' not everyone is going to know how to use it, and just carrying a kit simulates a person fully trained on the weapon. You wouldnt go from your average ak weilding Joe to suddenly an almighty SRAW user in mere seconds.
