I've only just downloaded PR and was wondering which server to join for an introduction. I understand the basics, but need somewhere to get into the game where it won't matter if I screw up occasionally. Any suggestions?

Hi mate, welcome to the forum and mod.

PRTA, NwA and Tactical Gamer are good servers for new people (NwA being a UK server, so good pings)

Just tell the squad leader you are new, and stick to basic kits like Rifleman for the first round or two (sniper and heavy anti tank weapons are a no no )

edit - please do follow Kain888's suggestion, mumble is very widely used now

Also make sure you are familiar and have setup the PR Mumble. On all servers mentioned by Rudd it's widely used.

Don't join NwA before around 18:00 PRT, otherwise complete clusterfuck. For you PRTA/NwA would probably be best for the ping but when you're more experienced and want some good teamwork try the Sisu 128 player server, best TW server around there. Just make sure you got mumble

Do I have to have set up the BF2 mic program (not sure what it's called) before setting up mumble?

There is no mic program

I think hes talking about the Battlecommo-programm:

To answer your question, NO you dont have to set this up before using mumble.

Just remember mumble usually does not fully replace ingame voip. There are still lots of situations where people use the voip, so setting this up correctly is important.
But dont worry if Battlecommo does no work for you, on my old pc it always crashed but VOIP worked perfectly anyway.

Seems special kits are popular in the world!!Sniper kit is newbie's favorite.

But i gotta add this to new face......
To improve yourself,read the mannual first,start with infantry man and stick with basic kit,always listening to the squad leader,be sharp,check map before shooting.
Train yourself in coop mode to learn how to deal with those different kits and vehicles
Go mumble is essential too!!!!!!!!!!!

One last thing,watch dbzao and Savage's video will help you to know how to cooperate with your teammate

Actually, you have to eat to survive. And you will fall asleep sooner or later. Reading the manual, on the other hand, is not necessary for either to survive or to be able to play PR.

yea NwA is really good when it comes to mumble, as well as Hardcore and 24/7 =hog=

It's also a good idea to try Co-op while you're getting your feet wet. However be aware that there are 2 types of Co-op servers, most have very lax rules (like 90% faster spwan times and the fact that snipers can drive tanks instead of Crewmen) and little to no teamwork. On the other hand the VG server runs an unmodded Co-op server where gameplay is much more normal, but at the same time more laided back (people will still be pissed if you crash a jet on takeoff but people will take the time to help you learn, even letting you squad lead right off the bat if you really want too).

Familiarise with as many kits assets etc as poss in COOP.

Go SL deploy and try stuff, fly everything even if you don't so you can see things from another perspective, like find flat heli extract points.

Then maybe go on a non TW server to see the speed and familirize with enemies and PR's brutal PvP environment.

Then go join a squad and get serious.

Oh yeah I'd check out the manual too as I'm not 1337 like Saxoni

I liked that one. If everyone could say "Oh, and please read the manual, as nobody is as 1337 as saX", I'd agree.

Nope. That's just there to set up in-game voip more clearly, I guess.
