ATI XFX HD6970 'squiggly lines'

Hi I have a problem with my XFX 6970 I just bought. Installed it just fine but now I've tried it on two games and have the same problem which is kind of hard to describe so I'll try it.

Horizontal lines across the screen kind of wiggle up and down during a game and for about ten minutes after the game. I've tried two games:

Battlefield 3 Beta which I don't count as it was only a beta build and bound to have stability issues.
Battlefield Bad Company 2 (legit version). Exactly the same problem happens on here, can even see the front post of the ironsights wobbling about :\

This is a brand new card and the drivers are updated to 8.892.0.0 according to my device manager. My system specifications and monitor are:

i7 920 2600K (not overclocked)
ASUS P8 P67 PRO
4GB memory
Maxtor 300GB (primary)
Samsung HD103SJ (Steam games inc BC2 are installed on this HDD)
HD6970 2GB
ASUS Xonar DX sound card
ASUS VW193S monitor
Coolermaster 750W PSU

And the final note... the card is seated and powered properly.

Thanks for reading :)

Have you tried to uninstall the current drivers and re-install the drivers that came on the CD that came with the card (assuming one came with)?

Yep, tried that thanks. No luck though.

I have read that it can be the VGA cable so I might replace that.

Also I've tried WoT, CoH and CoD MW2 and get the same problem. I also tried the old CS: Source but get no errors on that.

What resolution are you running those games at? Check out this wiki page under the cable quality section

The wiki article I linked to above does seem to reinforce the fact that a low quality VGA cable may be the culprit, but unless you swap out the connection, it will be hard to prove. Can't you use a DVI cable anyways and get a DVI to VGA converter? I have like 3 or 4 of those things just from having computers over the last ~10 years or so.

Yeah I'll look at a DVI cable, thanks. Was going to get a HD monitor as my card can support HDMI connections, not sure if it's worth it though.

The monitor should have been upgraded first if you bought such a high quality card! lol.

But don't forget that you'll most likely be upgrading to a 1920x1080 resolution. I always use the DVI rather than the HDMI for the monitor. Same connection quality plus I can use the HDMI elsewhere in the house.

Sorry I can't help ya with the graphics, I only know about Nvidia. :P

Just changed my resolution in BFBC2 to 1280x1024 @75Hz. Works! :D This will work as a temp solution for me until I can afford a new monitor.

Also, you might want to consider going back to your old resolution and enabling vertical sync. Maybe you are pushing too many fps for your monitor?

All games I play have V-Sync enabled so it shouldn't matter too much, but yeah I think the monitor just can't cope with the graphics card.
