How can i help at Project Reality 2

Hello Folks

I don't know where i can ask this question so i thought the best place would be here.
I'm really wondering about PR2 and tried to get as much information as i can.

Recently i read that only 15 peoples are developing PR2.
Now i am question myself how can i assist in the developing process?
PR brought me so much fun. FOR NOTHING! Now i'd like to bring my part into PR!
So, are there coders needed? I would start learning a programm language in my freetime untill i controll it perfectly so i can start helping developing a great FPS-genre called Realism :-P

I really hope i can help somehow.

thx for ya answers cya

I havnt heard much about it for quite a while. its a very good question. you would think people would be lining up around the block to start helping out, and I'm sure they have an engine. But the people in charge have been busy with real life stuff and the last release of PR. I suppose its easy to lose interest in a project when nobody is giving you feedback or providing suggestions and Ideas, Its not good enough to assume these 15 people can remember every fasset of BF2 :P R and try to replicate it with bullet points. theres an enormous amount to be done and setting those objectives even in basic terms would be difficult.

I'd love to hear how the structure of the game is taking shape and what progress has been undertaken.

Not to be a spoilsport, and I hope everyone who seriously wishes to do so gets the chance to contribute to PR (whether it be PR2 or otherwise), but I have to say this about programming. If you don't know any, you won't be able to contribute programming for a game for quite a while. A dedicated person can learn the basics of programming fairly quickly, but it takes a long time until you can make something useful, and an even longer time until you can do programming on a complex, multi-developer product.

That being said, I highly encourage anyone who's really interested in programming to go learn some.

also, tutorials tend to give new learners bad habits and personalization so when the product of that tutorial (weather it be animating, modeling or programming) carries across to another person that has to use it, its usually a bundle of messy gibberish. or so i'm told.

Thx for the answers

Sad to get all those negative feedbacks^^
Well, i still hope a developer shows up and says "Hell yeah! Learn this, that would be a big help."

My advantage is that i'm not in the progress of BF2 PR yet. so my mind is still "clear" for fresh/new input.

but yes, i don't wont to be an obstacle in the way

Depends on the tutorial. There are good ones and there are bad ones - tutorials or books. Anyway, when you're learning, you should go through a phase when what you make it messy, barely functional gibberish. Also, when you look back at something you did a year ago, you should think it's horrible and amateurish - if not, you haven't learned anything since then ;)

perhaps that is the direction you had better take, there are a great bunch of tuts on this forum for mapping, and mapping doesn't specifically require modelling, coding or texturing skills unlike other disciplines

PR2 is a very professional entity, I doubt you'd be able to assist that effort (I certainly can't, its beyond my skill level) but BF2 is still here

Depends on the Engine, I still have my hopes for CryEngine 3.

Anyone who shows some decent work, dose a good amount of work and has a good attitude is normally taken on board :D

All PR's mappers have came from the community this way at one point or another, including myself.

Lies, Rhino was grown in a test tube as part of a Ministry of Defence research project to create a supersoldier.

The project was a complete failure....however an unforseen side-effect was observed - be was insanely good at virtual level design; and thus [R-DEV] Rhino was created!

Lets say I was a wealthy billionaire like Bill Gates... how much money would it take for you guys to dump all other projects and assemble a DEDICATED and diversified team to make Project Reality 2 (hope thats a working title and not the final product name) and deliver it on a realistic timeframe (say 2 to 4 years from the beginning of planning/production).

Just curious, (I am NOT a wealthy billionaire, millionaire, thousandaire, or even hundredaire... just to clear that up) because I'd like to know what it would take for you guys to dump your day-jobs and other Project Reality based projects to focus on a stand-alone realism based game.

ALSO... to diversify your game portfolio, the game industry has been severely lacking in OTHER kinds of realistic tactical games such as terrorist execution/hostage rescue (Rainbow Six-style games) and something I'd LOVE to see a modern-day version of... a SWAT team platform like SWAT 4 but with updated graphics, physics, and weaponry/tactics.

If not SWAT team based SPECIFICALLY (due to licensing), just any residential/civilian based combat-like urban hostage rescue and non-lethal based combat. It REALLY made SWAT 4 stand out from the crowd in terms of tactical shooters, but unfortunately wasn't that big of a success due to lack of advertisement and bugs on a 2004 engine.

I say this to ALL of the DEVs sincerely, if you haven't tried SWAT 4, I HIGHLY suggest you try it and see what the possibilities are in a game like that. It is easily one of the best single-player shooters I own, and the multiplayer has potential, just a lack of population and some unsolved bugs.

While we have you here, can you say anything at all about PR2's progress, or lack thereof? Is it still where it was back when you guys made that FAQ in late 09?

Throwing money at things doesn't just make them go quicker, and equally I don't think a lack of updates says anything about the team not being dedicated. Also increasing team-size doesn't make things go faster, and will often make them go slower.
