upgrading an upgraded Compaq SR1630NX

I have an upgraded SR1630NX. I use the computer for home computing and for my vice: the Battlefield2 modification called Project Reality, some of you may have heard of it. ;)

Everything in the computer is stock except:

1. upgraded to 2.5 mb of RAM
2. upgraded to Corsair 550W power supply
3. upgraded GPU to Geforce 8800 GT 512mb

I achieve playable fps (25-35) on most maps at medium settings but with the old single core cpu I cannot run any additional applications while gaming (such as Mumble or Fraps).

I thought of upgrading the cpu to the Athlon 64 x2 4200. I found one online for $65.

Any advice?

A new computer is in the works but may be as much as a year off.

Thanks!

There is no real point upgrading old system. Better save money on new build. The money spent and additional FPS you gain ratio no go.

This video should be extremely useful for you.

The key point: "Spend the money now so you don't end up spending a lot more over time on little upgrades."
