Squad members, when do they just not cut it?

I did search thread titles, and in the past year, none seemed to directly address this as a discussion. If I missed anything, then I apologize.

Now, we have had plenty of "SL this" and "SL that". So, when is a SM a bad SM? This can come from SL's, aswell as other SM's.

I SL a fair bit. I'll exclude the obvious of ignoring orders and such, but some of the things that really annoy me are, but they are equally annoying as a SM.

> Taking too much time to act on orders. Really is annoying. In a hot-zone, seconds really count. Waiting around 30secs for ppl to fall-in, whether to advance, withdraw, and such .. argh..

> SM's who seem oblivious to basic commands. "Hold fire", "Keep with-in ridge", "watch x direction".. and so on.. so they shoot at anything, pop their head up or sky-line, decide to walk about leaving our flank unguarded...

As a SM, and I play medic a lot (oh yeah, medics that move into conflict.. don't do that guys, stay alive!), and I'm probably more bossy as a medic. :p .. but SM's that move into daft positions when you say not to, then expect you to take a few bullets as they need reviving.. ^^.

I'll stop here, or I'll add so much that it'll leave no-one else with anything to write about; and I realized this is almost rantying. Oops. I guess if people have an amusing slant to add, then the better.

Ok, I'm done... for now.

EDIT: Oh yeah, can I just add that there are many, many, really good SM's around PR, and SL's too. Well, where I frequent anyway. So, I'm not saying anything against PR or the community. I find this mod truely awesome.

SM's who randomly fire,pop smoke,drop incendiary's when bored.

SM's who jump on AR when SL says who wants AR than when he asks for medic you see tumbleweed.

SM's who take special kits with no clue how to use it because you know its "special" grenadier for example.

I join just to disappoint. I think it adds to the reality of the situation. Real people are not supermen, and are prone to making stupid mistakes.

Ergo: Bradley364, -That- guy.

I can understand squad members not understanding more complicated instructions, but I think a bad squad member is one who completely disregards direction instructions. I wouldn't expect people to be uber-tactical, but I would expect that everyone can understand if a SL says, "Ok lets stay behind the ridgeline to not get spotted" since it's really obvious what you have to do and there's a good explanation for why you're doing it.

I generally play as medic, and it's really annoying when people disregard advice or direct instructions and then get all shot up and dead.

Charging in fortified areas instead of lobbing their grenades first.

If 5 people throw all their grenades thats 10 grenades.

The German soldiers on Silent Eagle have 4 grenades each that would make it 20 grenades. Talking about a grenadier charge.

What, what, what?!

When it comes to new guys, I just about never give up on them, as long as they stick to the squad that is. In fact it depends on the person. If somebody does something just to troll, then they leave my squad pretty fast. On the other hand, if they do it just because they don't know any better, I just tell them how they are meant to do it, and encourage them to ask next time if there is something they are unsure about.

Keep on doing the same mistake over and over again how ever, and they get a last warning. If they do it again, I kick them from the squad.

Not really.. The medic should say to himself, 2 epipens per person.
And sure you can use more when needed but a max of 2 is about right as you get 10 epipens I think, you can stick an epipen in everyone on your squad, except for yourself, 2 times..

As for annoying things a squad mate can do:
- Looking at vehicles he/she cannot kill. (Don't look at it if you can't kill it..)
- Leaving a sector unguarded when their told to watch it.

Unless your squad is good, in which enemies drop ammo :)

And as long as you resus. first, 9 times out of 10 they get up for me.

You know, I understand people say the game is more fun when the SL only gives general directions instead of really micro-manage... But what really, REALLY annoys me when a SM feels free to strafe away from the squad (which can mean, literally, crossing the street or climbing a building, or perhaps going on the other side of a house) and in some way harms the objective of the squad which, as infantry, normally involves a lot of stealth.

All just IMHO [as per usual..].

A bad squad member is one that can't communicate.

If he never speaks, as an SL you are always under the impression that he never listens.

If he can't talk and doesn't talk, as an SL I always feel that he is not a full squad member.

At the end of the day you can always tell an overentheusic chatty person to quieten down, and they will (or you kick and they understand). But you can almost NEVER tell a quiet person to talk (and if you do kick you get the 'y u kick mee' on team chat).

The easiest squads to lead all speak to each other and have a sense of community. I find it encourages me as an SL. But a quiet squad is frustrating and like talking to a brick wall sometimes.

it all depends on my level of tolerance that day really, if I've had a shit day, then I can't be arsed with fools

but repeated disregard for orders is kick

repeated picking up of kits without asking is kick

getting a sniper/HAT kit, killing a dude then dropping the kit thinking I won't notice is a kick

being a asshat or disregarding server rules when in my squad is a kick

just stay near me with the kit I've told you to get and you're fine :P

SMs that take too long to do something for reasons other than logistical or tactical reasons. Obviously if he's int he middle of a reload or is pinned down i cant expect him to move on my command.

people who shoot at everything they see despite orders to stay quiet and hidden. I always check this of course. it's pointless to stay quiet if we've already been spotted.

For me its all about focus and desire. If he can be focused enough to actually do things for the squad, fine. If he can show an interest to play along with the game plan, great. I don't care if he's a bit slow on the uptake or makes mistakes. You just gotta roll with it.

Course thats only when I'm without friends to play with. Then we lock the squad and avoid the derp... definitely avoid the derp. Course if we forget to lock the squad we'll usually sigh really loud and welcome the guy into the squad and hope he has TS installed.

For me, it's radio discipline. Nothing bugs me more than constant irrelevant chatter, often with several people talking at once. Short and sweet with as much info as possible should be all SM's goal when using the radio.

I've tried to use "break-break-break" to clear the channel so the SL can speak, and sometimes it works.

The difference between a squad using radio discipline vs a squad who is yammering on is huge.

Other than Radio Coms, I have a hard time with SM's who constantly question commands, or offers their own opinion immediatley after the SL issues orders...if I order you to your certain death you had best march off with a smile on your face and take what's coming to you!

I could go on and on and on... There is no end.

One retarded thing that EVERYBODY does is, when hearing armour, they go looking for it, and when they spot it, they keep on cheking them out until they get shot, and make a stupid face. If that doesnt piss me off enough, medic goes running to him and he gets shot aswell.

Not gonna write anymore because i am hardly resisting all caps rage.
