CTD on Deploy

Hi guys,
So I have decided to play PR again, the last time I played it was roughly .937 or so. Since then I have not touched my BF2 or PR installation.
I've searched through various topics (both google and the PR forums) and all of them state things such as:
- Textures on medium;
- Resolution greater than 800x600, etc.
I have followed these guides but to no avail. My PR keeps crashing to desktop once I hit the deploy button on any server, be it Co-op or MP.
I even uninstalled BF2 and PR, made sure my registry was clear of all entries referencing them. The reinstalled BF2, patched to 1.41 then to 1.50 then installed PR Part 1, Part 2 and finally Part 3.
This seemed to work as last night I managed to get 2 or so rounds in, today I fired up PR and hit the deploy button and was once again presented with this problem.
I cleared my cache, reset my settings etc, but it still is giving me this problem.
My machine specs:
Core i7 920 @ 2.8 Ghz
6GB OCZ-DDR3 1600 MHz
Nvidia Geforce GTX470
Drivers: 285.62
Win 7 Professional x64
If there is anything I am missing please shout.
Thank you.

Try running it in windowed mode. Rightclick on your PR shortcut, find "target" and paste in "+menu 1 +fullscreen 0" after all the stuff that's already there. Make sure you've got a space between what's already there and what you're supposed to paste in.
Join a server, and if it crashes to desktop, you should get an error-message.

Are you running as admin? Tried setting bf2 process to one core, deleting complete battlefield 2 directory in my documents?

I have UAC disabled so it should automatically run as administrator. I've deleted my BF2 folder, gone into vBF2 to create it again. Same thing happens.
I also chose to run it in compatibility mode with WinXP SP3. That worked for one round and then stopped.
I've set my affinity on BF2 to one core, same thing happens.
Will try the windowed mode now.

Does BF2 crash on deploy?
You don't do any modding/tweaking, I assume?

Lol no, disabling UAC does not mean it will run as admin automatically. For a start disable compatibility mode as it may in some cases cause memory leaks, and make sure you run it as admin. It should work. If not try combining compatibility and run as admin.
One more thing left. Did you start vbf2 first and let it optimize there first by joining some vanilla bf2 server? If not clear your cache again and do that first. For some reason shaders are not correctly optimized if you run PR mod first, and it can cause various issues. The best known is no vehicle / weapons / assets textures but it may cause crashes too.

vBF2 runs fine. I can join any server no problems. It's just PR.
If by modding/tweaking you mean software then no, if by hardware then yes, but thats on an auxillary machine.
Attached is the error message it has thrown up when running in windowed mode.

Compatibility disabled + Run As Admin = No Dice. (Pun intended)
Compatibility enabled + Run as Admin = No Dice.
I'll try the optimize with vBF2 first.

Looks like there's something wrong with the 1.50 patch.

What type of monitor do you use and on which resolution / refresh rate is the game set? Check you video.con file located in C:\Users\*user*\Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\000n
Line that says "VideoSettings.setResolution NNNNxNNN@NNHz
Which version is your bf2 install? Did you get any errors while installing patches? Tried running as admin?

Its a Samsung SyncMaster 2333SW (LCD), resolution is 1080p @ 60Hz.
BF2 optimized. Now we see if PR takes it.
Update: Nope. It hasn't taken it.
MaSSive wrote:Which version is your bf2 install? Did you get any errors while installing patches? Tried running as admin?
If you mean what media version - the DVD from '05.
If you mean its current software version - its v1.5. Got no errors whatsoever. All patches were run as admin.

Oh snap...same error? Please check following files : video.con; bf2Patch.log; PATCH.ERR; prError.log

Video.Con
Code: Select all
VideoSettings.setTerrainQuality 3
VideoSettings.setGeometryQuality 3
VideoSettings.setLightingQuality 3
VideoSettings.setDynamicLightingQuality 3
VideoSettings.setDynamicShadowsQuality 3
VideoSettings.setEffectsQuality 3
VideoSettings.setTextureQuality 2
VideoSettings.setTextureFilteringQuality 3
VideoSettings.setResolution 1920x1080@60Hz
VideoSettings.setAntialiasing 2Samples
VideoSettings.setViewDistanceScale 1
VideoSettings.setVideoOptionScheme 3
bf2Patch.log is too extensive to post here, but I have noted errors saying:
warning wpt0036: Old File not found. However, a file of the same name was
found. No update done since file contents do not match.
In PATCH.ERR that warning is attached to localisations. For example:
ENTRY: mods\bf2\Localization\dutch\dutch.utxt
warning wpt0036: Old File not found. However, a file of the same name was
found. No update done since file contents do not match.
Then as for the prError.log file:
Code: Select all

Nothing much there. Damn it. In that error.log you have same errors like most of us I believe its nothing not known. Did you install .NET Framework 3.5 SP1, punkbuster?

I have .NET Framework Version 4. Is that not enough or do I need 3.5? Punkbuster is up to date.

It should be on by default in Win7 but just in case check in CP - Programs and features - Turn Windows features on/off. Make sure Its checked. If this is fine I'm afraid I exhausted my options here for now. If I think of anything else I will let you know. In meantime some of the DEVs might take a look at that error screenshot that you posted. Try also rebooting if you did not, thats last that crossed my mind.

I managed to get it sorted out, eventually. Turns out my AV didn't like the fact that Part 3 of the install has the option to update PB and its services. It picked it up as a worm or trojan, so it quarantined the file. When I told it to restore the file, it had damaged some of the files.
Uninstalling PR and then using a fresh copy of Part 3 with my AV off sorted out the problems.
