Entire System Freeze (Sound related?)

I am having an issue with my entire system seizing up, requiring a forced shut down. I'll be playing along and at a seemingly random point in time everything goes hay wire. It could be 5 minutes, it could be 5 hrs. Characteristically these freezes are accompanied by the last half second or so of audio looping. The entire system becomes unresponsive.

Please do let me know what you can do to help me out. I have to say upfront, I am not exactly the best with computers/troubleshooting, so you will have to extend me a little extra patience. In a first step of good will, I have made a concerted effort to be detailed in my first post.

This is an issue that other users have reported in previous threads.

There's actually a bunch more of these, but you get the idea.

A few notes:
  • I've played with this machine for years with no problems before (the RAM was changing a month or so prior to incidents occuring?)
  • This seems to be limited entirely to Windows 7. When my XP partition got corrupted, I reinstalled with Windows 7 (in August) and life hasn't been the same since. (Though I did get a 3.8GPA :D )
  • I tried updated all of my drivers, I think. Coming from the Apple side of things I sort of blow at this, but I downloaded a utility to find devices and link to drivers? This may not be 100% though, not sure how to look into this more.
  • I do not think it's a temperature issue as I tried playing with my laptop stacked on some disk cases, and it didn't hlep. Also, I've played with this hot guy for years with XP.
  • I tried running BF2 under "WinXP SP3 Comptatbility Mode." That was the last thing I tried last night before I rage quit over being frozen out of TG for the 6th time.
I'll give my best shot at giving some specs here, but I'm not very good at it:
  • 15 inch Early 2008 MBP
  • Running Windows 7 64bit via bootcamp
  • Processor 2.5 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
  • Memory 6 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM (The memory is 3rd party. 1x4gb, 1x2gb)
  • Graphics NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT 512 MB
  • HDD 250FB Hitachi HTS723225L9SA62

So youre runinng Windows 7 on a MAC via bootcamp? Wow I have no idea how mac works, I suppose hardware should be somewhat similar but some of the devices might have wrong IDs, causing a wrong driver to be installed?
In short dont run PR in compatibility mode on Win 7 it can make more problems, and always run PR as admin. Try playing with settings and see if it helps. Decrease sound quality, texture quality...etc

Also you must check if its not overheating. That would be cause no1 for freezing. Check ram for errors, check hdd too, defragment your drives, clean the clutter, scan for malware.

What is the onboard soundcard on that MBP?
