Hello.

So I've begun to build a new computer for myself. I've been saving up some money and combined with some newegg.com gift cards that I have, I'm in a position to start buying parts.

I'll be buying some high-end stuff since this will be a gaming computer, and I see that there are some very attractive after Christmas specials on some of the parts I'm looking at.

So here's my problem. While I would like to take advantage of these holiday sales now, I won't be able to use the computer until this summer, when I come home from college. My main concern is that if I buy say a graphics card now, and leave it sit unopened in my room, if anything will happen to it. My house can get pretty cold during the winter, and I'm worried that the cold weather will somehow damage the parts I buy.

It shouldn't be a problem, as long as you're not storing it where it will get bumped a lot. People deliberately freeze their PC's with nitrogen and helium to bring the operating temperatures into the negatives.

Yep - with PC's it's the colder the better.... (would not recommend freezing as it might split boards or solder tracks)

Keep them in the original manufacturers packaging and do not break the seals, it's designed to protect the item for long periods of time. Just place some where so they don't run the risk of being crushed.

The hardware business is so fast growing/changing its not worth to keep it for half a year.
Im sure you will be able to buy better hardware for a cheaper price than in the summer.

That's what I was thinking after I did some research. I see a bunch of new tech is coming out like Ivy Bridge, Intel 600 series, and the AMD 7000 series. I think I'll just wait for all of that for now. Thanks guys.
