[0973] Steam Version BF2 can't find pr.exe suddenly

I clicked activate in BF2 twice with success, but PB kept kicking me for my steam overlay, so I disabled that. Still got kicked for some reason, so decided to run it from the Project reality desktop shortcut. Of course, I then ran into the no servers found issue (which i looked up and found the solution to, thankfully.) But because I like my steam friends to know what game I'm in I decided to just run BF2 via steam again, Clicked the custom tab, selected the PR mod and activated it, figuring I could finally play now. BF2 restarted but then I ran into this!

So BF2 has now forgotten where to look for the pr.exe even though it ran it fine twice before and there's no way to change it, even after reinstalling the mod. This only occurred after running the direct PR shortcut. Tried searching this forum but the results were so unrelated it was frustrating. While running it through Steam is not critical (probably) every gamer I know is on it and I'd prefer to run it that way. Thanks for readin, even if there turns out to be no solution.

Welcome to the forums.

So you are trying to run pr by launching it through the community tab in BF2? Well if you read the information in that tab, it says PR has to be run from the PR shortcut to work properly :-P

Why not add the PR shortcut to your steam games library, it will show to your friends that you're playing PR and then you can actually launch PR properly.

Just remember to disable steam ingame overlay for it.

If you're still being PB kicked, try updating punkbuster with this
PunkBuster Online Countermeasures

Thanks. Thought of the same thing. Just strikes me as odd it worked the first 2 times I launched from the community/custom menu. I got on a skirmish server and managed to get one kill--a TK Derp! Everyone looks the same at any distance to my bad eyes. The admins were really nice and helpful. Read the manual (most of it) and I've so much to learn.

After a couple of days or weeks you'll be able to tell enemies from friendlies by judging the color/hue of the uniform/player model at distance, rather than looking for anything specific. There are a few factions that look very similar at distance, but the usual GB/USvsMEC/Ins stuff is rather easy after a little experience :)

Just watch out when you jump in a tank, thermals eliminate that easy form of identification
