[Mounted Weapon] AT-4 Spigot

Started monkeying around with this thing a little while ago and figured I might as well show what I've got done off. It's the AT-4 Spigot (9K111 Fagot) Soviet Anti-Tank missile launcher, and I'm hoping if I get it done the Militia could use it as their TOW. Still a long ways to go however.

4880 tris so far.

Looking pretty good. :)

For presentation purposes here, some edged faces shots at different angles are usually clearer than wireframe to see how your model is built up.

Also, watch out with the tri-count. You're not done yet and you're at +/- 4500 currently. I'm not sure exactly but I'd say the max for something like this is between 5000 and 7000 (and since I'm not sure, that might be too high already). It looks like your model is rather tri heavy around the leg joints f.e. Although it might be easier to optimize your model's tri count from a higher amount then making it more detailed from a lower amount, the best is imo to try and get it right as much as you can the first time.

Also important, are you modelling in 3DS Max 9 or a newer version? If you are modelling in a newer version, expect that you might have to fix import errors when taking it into 9 (there are no export tools for Max versions newer than 9). See here for more info: https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f388-p ... ssets.html

Good luck!

I'll make an AT-5B Spandrel B for the Russians after I'm finished this (basically just a slightly different tube model) as a placeholder for the AT-14 Spriggan (9M113 Kornet) I want to model.

Almost done the model - I need to do the piping around the tripod and the optical piece.

@Adrian - I'm using Max 2012 thing as I couldn't find a download for a free Max 9, unfortunately.

The triangle count's probably going to be around 8000 before I start cutting back.

You could always "acquire" it. *nudge nudge*

Looking good. Make sure you do everything you can to get all the accuracies nailed down at this step without worrying too much about tri count right now. Post up when you are looking for crits on the triangle count as there are already quite a few areas you can get rid of some but as you say you are not at that point yet.

I think it's for his SKS - you'll notice the thread is no longer in community modding.

Looking good so far, the port to max9 will be a nightmare for who ever comes to do it thou...

Are thous rings round the tube welded to it? Doesn't look like they are currently? If not, they really need to be...

Out of curiosity, is this more realistic than the SPG-9 for the militia as that's there current "Deployable AT" and what your basically hoping to replace?

Russians however certainly could do with there own Deployable AT.

Could it be used as an alternate AT? To complement the SPG so only one of each can be built?
Currently only two TOW's can be built for a faction, why not make it so Militia only gets one AT-4 and one SPG instead of say two AT-4' or two SPG's? This AT-4 looks very good and is an interesting idea for Militia.

I have absolutely no idea how realistic it is. I just figured it was old, Russian, and fitted pretty well into the pseudo-conventional Militia faction design (although the SPG is probably more realistic, it's debatably less conventional as it's unlike the other factions' TOWs). Also, the Militia have Spandrel missiles on top of their BRDM already.

As for Russian deployable AT, what happened to this baby?

I already see it, a server with a filthy speech filter...

*Hey, build that fagot over there ontop of the hill! BAN*

This *censored* is going to be so awesome for the militia faction!

I doubt it, everyone calls any Deployable AT a TOW as it is... :p

Thing as this got bumped:

Please don't ask about tris :D

PS: It's very difficult to find hi-res shots of how the optical piece is attached to the actual launcher, so what I've got there is a rough approximation unfortunately.

Here is one close-up of the optical device when detatched from the actual launcher. Dunno if this is what you needed.

The video shows the optical device detached from the actual launcher at 0:22.
