New videocard problems

My pc specs are :
Amd Phenom II 955 x4 3.2 ghx
AMD HD6970
8gb ram @ 1333
1 tb hdd
and msi motherboard
The problem is that before buying the new video card (AMD 6970) I had the amd 4870 1gb edition and I was able to run the game at high settings with 8x aa and I was getting 45 + fps .
Now with the new videocard I get only under 35 fps (25-28 in cities, 30-35 fps in woodland). So did any of you had this problem before , and if yes how did you manage to fix it ?
(Catalist control center is set to default , I played with the values a bit , trying some of the aa modes but it didn't really do anything)
Thank you

This, also I've heard AMD has some issues with PR (black spots I think)

LARGEADDRESSAWARE is no longer needed!! The 1.5 patch has it included. Using the LARGEADDRESSAWARE fix will cause MD5 mismatch punkbuster kicks now.

IMHO try this:
Download driver sweeper Driver Sweeper - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com

Download the new driver package for your card and save.

Go to computer control panel > remove a program. Uninstall AMD install manager..use 'express uninstall all amd software including the installer. Reboot. Run driver sweeper. Select AMD display....remove all it finds. Reboot. Install the new driver package. Reboot.
I just realized I never set up LARGEADDRESSAWARE for myself correctly. heh.

Modifying the .exe is not needed anymore for BF 1.5. Dont do that, you might get kicked for an md5 mismatch.
You can still apply Large Adress Aware though.

Did you update drivers to CCC 11.12? that is a very unstable and bad driver release, after i updated i had the same problems your talking about with cross fire 6870s . So i rolled back to 11.11 and no more problems, you can take the 11.12 cap and it wont mess up anything but 11.12 drivers are full of issues.

I know this might sound funny, but have you tried clearing your shader cache after you got new card? This happened to me when I switched from 8800 to gts450 and optimizing shaders again helped.

Go to My Documents>Battlefield 2>mods>bf2>cache and delete everything. Now run vBF2 and join MP game. Close and run PR.

Do revert drivers to older ones too, new ones from AMD are buggy as hell, as everyone suggested here.

do you have this problem in other games?
what is your PSU wattage
what is your OS 32 or 64bit (you really should have 64bit with all that ram)
and are you running with compatibility mode on if you are turn it off it only causes BF2 to run slower (on win7) for some strange reason, i used to get ram leaks left and right with it on my laptop, but run in administator mode

with that GPU you should be getting +90FPS on every map, what sounds to me is either a weak PSU or driver problems (unless its 32bit windows in which case you should probably get 64bit)

ofcourse what massive said might work, you never know with DICEs mad coding skillz

you wont because you are not applying it to the BF2.exe but to windows it self, and you wont get kicked
its still needed on 32bit systems since 32bit can use a maximum of 2gb of ram per application for what ever reason M$ decided this was a smart idea, 64bit systems dont have this stupid thing
you both would have known that if you had read the link, so please dont misinform.

Thinks you are mixing things up, sorry if I was confusing. Because you were talking about this 2GB per application I assumed you were talking about the .exe modification.

THIS has been patched in 1.5 so is not needed anymore and might result in an MD5 mismatch.

The boot option you were talking about is described here:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library ... s.85).aspx (WinXP) or IncreaseUserVA element in BCDEdit on WinVista/7.
Without setting the flag or in case of BF2 patch 1.5 this option is pretty useless as far as I know.

I'm sorry again.
There will be a guide covering these problematic soon.

well wouldnt know about xp since i hadnt tested it on XP, but i did it on win7 and vista and it worked on both, and it works with different games (well obviously)
for example you cant get in game in DCS A10 without applying this 2gb switch for 32bit systems, the game just crashes as soon as you load in, and it works for PR since i used to crash after every round, when i applied the patch i stopped crashing, i didnt crash once after that (back when i used my laptop)

This should clear things up. Might as well be interesting for the thread opener.

well do what massive said, and clear your cache, then check if your running in compatibility mode, if you are turn it off, but run as administrator

or you could reinstall the game, and it would probably fix everything

anyway what 64bit version is it (home premium, ultimate, blah blah blah)
