JSDF Faction: What could have been?

Saw this video on Youtube showing a live-fire demonstration of various Japan Self-Defense Force assets and made me wonder what could have been had development on the JSDF faction not fallen through.

Ahw c'mon Rhino!
It's not the same.
'Though it's still an excellent mod.
But I agree with Orca, it's just a pity that the development of the JSDF faction for PR was canceled. It was already coming alone nicely.
Had it be finished I'm sure it would have been mighty different from CQB. Mostly because of the vehicles and maps. Although if I recall correctly, the team working on it was inspired by the CQB mod and some of the maps were to be like PR-like versions of the CQB maps.
Again it's too bad it didn't make it. I'm sure had development of it continued, we may very soon had enjoy it (After all, faction development for PR is not something that can be started and finished within a few months). BLUFOR or OPFOR, I think the JSDF would have worked both ways.
That's just my opinion 'though.

Oh... That rooftop map looks nice.
Can you imagine - a proper big city map in PR with high-rises and all the shindigs? hmhmhmhmhmhmhm
The Kawasaki OH-1 would be interesting, a scout helicopter armed with only AA missiles.
And Little Birds!

I imagine the snipers would likely spend the better part of the round going up stairwells trying to get into position, LOL!

That small 6 wheel IFV, with the long barrelled auto cannon and ATGMs. Those type 90s. Also, F15s.
Do want.

I don't recall seeing any F-15's in the video, just a 2-ship flight of Mitsubishi F-2's (license-built F-16 variants).

I'm not blind, it's just that f15 is so far superior to the F2 for air superiority it would make sense to put it into the mod.

Well since PR factions typically have 2 fixed-wing aircraft per regular faction, perhaps they could have both the F-2 and F-15J?

If I recall correctly, back then the Devs said they were not going to take any further BLUFOR factions (After all, there's plenty of them already) and were only looking for OPFOR factions.
'Though I think the JSDF could have made a nice OPFOR on its own (Reads too much "Debt of Honor" by Tom Clancy).

Did they just stopped or they deleted their files too?

Yet work still continues on the French faction, and if they need another OPFOR, there's always North Korea, Iran, or Syria (though I think the latter two could be collectively dismissed with the MEC, who seem to be the catch-all 'conventional force Arabic aggressors').

Really though the issue with RedFor/BluFor is only semantics.
From my experience, excluding insurgency, BluFor is always the invading/attacking army and RedFor is the defending army. Personally I can't see why a map can't have China attacking Japan and China be BluFor.
But in anycase, I believe some models are still around but they need LODs and a tonne more stuff. Then you need voice actors.... maps.... working code for the vehicles....
A gigantic robot with real blood thats somehow related to god....

If they were willing to make the stuff and were turned down for too many BLUFOR factions I am quite disappoint. I would much rather see the JSDF than any of the BLUFOR factions currently in development (with the exception of the PSC, but that's gone out the window and won't come back for a long long time, if at all).

Well there could have been other factors. Working on a faction is not an easy task. Specially when it's only a hanful of guys working on it. I would think the lack of support combined with the hard job of creating a faction with little help motivated the guys working on the JSDF faction to quit.
Again it's a pity because they did have a lot of unique stuff done or pretty advanced in development. I've been checking the original topic and it seems 162eRI may still have some or most of the work related to the JSDF. Not sure how much work those assets still reuire to be usable.
If there's people with the will to learn how to create the assets required and most important, the will to create those assets, perhaps the project can be re-started from scratch and independently (After all that's pretty much how community factions get done).
So.... Just out of curiosity. Anyone up for it?
(Not me ^^; Sorry, got other stuff to take care of).

I would eagerly offer to help on this, except I have practically -zero- coding experience that I could contribute. Pretty much all I could offer would be advice, suggestions, and moral support. I too think that the JSDF faction should indeed be revived and completed.

Yeah me too I really would like to help but don't know how to use 3d editors or to code..

Well gentlemen... Every awesome coder, modeler, texturer, etc. has been right where you are right now.
If you guys got the will and time, you can start by picking a particular area you would like to work on. Say models or textures. Once you've decided what role you want to assume, go here and read the tutorials that should help you working:
Modding Tutorials - Project Reality Forums
Then go get the programs you need, practice with them long enough to know how to use them well enough and then jump onto working on the required assets.
You guys will need a plan 'though. A well detailed plan so you can know what stuff has to done, is being worked on at the moment and what is already finished. The plan is the absolute first thing you need before starting to work on the assets the JSDF faction need.

Well in that case, why not but I would like to see what's have been done before the stop of the project.

But right now I don't have my PC (Im postin' from ma ps3), It's only a matter of days, I think I'll post a thread by then to see who's motivated to re-start the project.

Who was working on this faction?
