Not very well... the 5770 is rather old (2 generations now) and even when it was released it was average at best.

If you live near a Micro Center, Fry's, or NCIX, check out their combos.
I have a hd5770 and it's a struggle to play PR:Arma2, I had to drop to 1440x900 and settings to medium. I keep getting sniped by guys beyond my view distance range, which is truly pi***ng me off.
For 400, you are about good, if you can get a combo, you might get a Phenom x4 BE or FX 4100 BE, similar mobo, and a HD6850 for same price.
Seen a few HD6850s for $140 this week on several websites, stores are clearing out the old to prepare for the HD7XXX and GTX6XX cards...

fx-4100 and mobo for $185.

I changed up what im getting a little bit.
Amd phenom II 955 x4 3.2 Ghz
Asus M4A78T-E
ASUSTeK Computer Inc. - Motherboards- ASUS M4A78T-E
550 Watt Psu
8gb (2x4gb) 1600Mhz ram
the motherboard comes with on board graphics so I am going to use those in the time being while I make some money to get a better video card around 150-170 range.

I woulod reccomend the new bulldozer coreh its the one I posted
if you want to play Arma 3 it will handle it a lot better

alright ill look into that
my main goal is to build a system that will run the new games like BF3 Arma 3 Farcry 3 and stuff like that at 1440x900 on med/high settings

then the bulldozer core will be a better option because Arma 3 will use the extra cores

how do you think a Diamond ATI Radeon HD 4780 would do vs the 5770?

You mean the HD 4870.
The gaming power is very similar, EXCEPT 4870 draws more power and creates more heat.
AND the 4870 is NOT DirectX 11 compatible, which makes it worthless to play bf3 and ARMA3 on medium/high, and some future games will require DX11 compatible graphic cards.
Stick with the hd5770 over a hd4870.
Another thing, check your local craigslist.com listings for used video cards, you might find someone selling a used card because they upgraded to a new card. It is a gamble, you could get a broken card or whatever, but you might find a bargain.

Hahaha yea that's exactly what I'm doing. On Craigslist there is a 5770 and a 4870 both for 80 so ima go with the 5770

at stock speeds 4870 is faster but if you do a slight overclock on 5770 then it will be faster
also dont cheap out on graphic cards they are one of the most important components for gaming
have you decided on your build?

Well I already picked up a socket am3 mobo so I'm going with the Phenom 955. The mobo has onboard graphics. (Yes I know those suck) but I don't even have any games to play yet. So I'm not in a rush to get a video card. I can use the onboard graphics till I find a good deal on a card and while I buy some games.
I've also seen a few videos on YouTube of pretty much the exact system I'm building and it runs bf3 on ultra at 40-45 fps which is better than I expected so yea...

Just got new deal from tigerdirect.com
Tiger Direct has AMD 6 Core Phenom II X6 1035T AM3 2.60GHz Processor (Retail) for $129.99 - $30 rebate = $100 + free shipping.
AMD HDT35TWFGRBOX Phenom II X6 1035T Processor - Six Core, 6MB L3 Cache, 3MB L2 Cache, 2.60GHz (3.10GHz Max Turbo), Socket AM3, 95W, Fan, Retail at TigerDirect.com
EDIT: You might do better with a faster stock speed 4 core Phenom II, but this is a good deal because you should be able to OC the 1035 to 3.1 very easily, and 3.7ish with a bit of work. The 955 also OC's well,
EDIT2: Comparison of 955 and 1035. Of course, if you are buying a used 955 on the cheap, ignore my post.
http://products.amd.com/en-us/DesktopCP ... 653&id=618
EDIT3: IN comparison above, the 955 is a 125W cpu, the 1035 is a 95W CPU, which means you can conservatively OC the 1035T and not need a larger PSU.

I believe the AMD onboard graphics can work together with the graphics card providing better graphics performance

5770 is faster why do you keep going down every time you compare a new generation card
6770 is better because it is a newer generation
I recommend you get a 6 series card or even better a 7 series card if you want to be future proof
