Tri count is very, very, very high for a sign...

http://i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h41 ... p4sale.png
Thous nobs there are most likley what its mainly down too and very bad idea to add them, not just for the tri count but for what they will do on the LMs and the amount of zfighting they will cause etc added like that... Better off doing screw heads or w/e via texture.

Also what are you thinking in the way of textures?

Got any refs on this before I comment any more on it?

Good thing is your starting with something simple :D

I assume you'll be making your own texture sheet for this? If so you really need to just make those screws as part of the texture... they're ridiculously high poly compared to the rest of the model :) I assume you already know that but you asked for feedback!

Also do you have a reference for that block on the bottom? I always thought they were hammered into the grass, but I could be very wrong!

Edit: Bah, beaten by Rhino on all counts. :(

Lolz :p

Stuff I work off from what's around me in r/l I still take photos of so I can look at my refs on my second monitor etc, although people do look at you in a very strange way when your taking photos of really odd things, and even stranger when you star taking photos of walls and the floors for textures :D

Probably not a good idea tbh. Its at the end of the day, just a sign and really not worth a entirely new texture sheet for, however small. The only new bit you really need is a "For Sale" texture. Other than that, you can most likely find the textures you need.

I would recommend doing the same sort of thing as I did for this Aus sign here, using up the empty space on the vBF2 signs palette for the new text and anything else you really need, note posts #14, #16 and #20: https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f206-a ... ost1014305

Not sure its really needed myself, I think just a post in the ground would look better.

One thing to consider about it being generic, is languages. Can't be used on a Chinese map if the sing is in English, Russian, Arabic etc.

lolz. Its possible yes, but its just a sign and I really don't think its worth going into that for this :p

removed the nobs and base, lengtened the vertical beam and added some details on ends

think its ready for texture?

You could reduce the detail on the chains running from the post to the sign.

5 sided is fine, although lod1 should be 3 sided each.

Can we get a wireframe please?

Some of the BF2 signs create the lettering with geometry, and then fill the letters with a generic color and the background with a different color.

Also, if you made a foreclosure version I could put them all over the place in my US map, they seem to be common.

Ye, it is quite poly heavy but the main reason why I didn't suggest it is because its very inflexible for other maps usage if your trying to make a generic object.

Yes.

I think also the proportions look a little off, I would keep the sign the same size but make the posts slightly longer.

eg; http://o5.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/0 ... e-sign.jpg

Also this is a perfect little project to learn static texturing, even if you might find it a little hard to find a existing part for the 'for sale' :)

Haha, nice one Dock, you went from 1700 tri's to 110 xD

But yeah looking good.. I should probaply do something like this to learn how to texture.. Could use the experience for my house I'm currently creating. Keep up the good work
