ultimate 64 bit complete computer freeze

Hello,

I have a problem with my project reality. After about 20 to 60 minutes in game, my computer freezes and I have to restart. The screen freezes, and displays the last frame. The sound also freezes, and you only hear a static noise, presumably the last tone heard in game.

I got this error after I upgraded from Windows XP professional 32 bit to Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit. Therefore, it is a problem with Windows 7, as I had no problems before, except for a casual crash while loading a map. It is no hardware, or overheating problem.

My system specs:

I started off with a normal Compaq SR5741NL, and have one that was released before the GPU recall, because the ventilator was defect, and a blade hit a screw, what made a terrible noise. So I upgraded my graphics card.

Core 2 Duo E7300

Things I've tried:

Of course, before starting this topic here, I searched the web. I have tried:

Re installing normally

Uninstalling manually, removing all the registry keys, and re installing with everything running as administrator

Updating various motherboard drivers.

Putting textures on medium.

Putting textures on low.

Putting all the things on low.


In my eyes, I have tried almost everything. Though I could try updating more drivers for my motherboard. The point is, I haven't found any other drivers.

So yeah, please help me. The game really is unplayable, and this way I shouldn't and, will not join any deployment matches. I now have to stick to Co-op matches, and those are not even half as fun.

Welcome, nice post.

That PR_Error.log report indicates a common error that would cause a CTD but not a freeze. Clearing shader cache usually fixes this message.

It is no hardware, or overheating problem.
But it sounds like one...
Assuming you did a memtest and checked your temperatures etc.?

Have a look into your "Event Viewer" under "Windows Logs" check if you see any Errors/Warning messages at the time around the freeze.

I provoked a crash again, and checked the prError.log file again, and there was nothing new there. I also checked the windows logs, and there was no unusual log at the time of the last prError.log. I guess the prError.log doesn't provide any information on my problem.

I agree, that log file will probably not help in this case.

This is not complete path, cause I install my games on D partition outside of system folders, and drives.

If you use wide screen monitor leave +widescreen 1, szx and szy are you ingame resolution, and rest is self explanatory.

This will skip video.con lookup and this error should not appear, or error unable to open BF2 process, etc... + restart is to skip intro's.

I already used a start line like that:

Tech support fail.
We have a punkbuster issue...


Let's start over. You need to
1. uninstall punkbuster.
reboot.
manually install/update punkbuster.
give punkbuster admin rights.
and then maybe....
2. start PR, connect to a server, minimize PR, open task manager, find PunkbstrB, right click on it, and give it admin irights.

I used CCleaner which is a driver, file and registry cleaner program. Got rid of anything and everything in my registry that had to do with Punkbuster. I also used Regedit at cmd line for Windows to make double certain. Search for "PnkB"

Important Step:

4) Now this one might be the most important part. I found out about it just today after doing some searching. Punkbuster has a Removal Uninstall utility called pbsvc.exe This utility will completely remove all Punk Buster files from your computer. Even ones that are hidden in your system32 folders and elsewhere. You can download this file from: PunkBuster Online Countermeasures.. PunkBuster Online Countermeasures
Scroll down till you see the heading How do I uninstall PunkBuster?. It's all the way to the bottom. File direct link HERE http://www.evenbalance.com/downloads/pbsvc/pbsvc.exe


(THIS IS OPTIONAL) 6) I defragged the C: drive after all this just to make sure. Also now would be the time to run Adaware or SpyBot and also your favorite Anti-Virus program. A full scan with updated definitions. A couple of free ones I highly recommend if you don't already own a professional one are, AVG or Avast.

You have to have a game running that uses punkbuster, punkbstrA.exe will then start PunkbstrB.exe ....
PunkbstrB.exe is only active when you are connected to a online server.
That's why you have to start PR and connect to a servr, then minimize PR and start task manager to find PunkbstrB.exe.

uninstall punkbuster manually with this:

(This part is optional, not sure this bug happens anymore) Run PR, and connect to an online server, then minimize PR and start task manager to find PunkbstrB.exe , right click on it, and give it admin rights.

Or you can find it in /system32 or /sysWOW64 right click on it and tick run as administrator. This way it will always have admin rights when it starts.

And no we haven't faild..just going step by step :)

In my opinion, as long as my computer doesn't catch fire, explode, implode, or has a horde of angry badgers coming out of it, you haven't failed.

I am thinking one of two problems, either your profiles folder was corrupted, or you have a UAC elevation error.

Quick possibie solution if profiles corrupted:
Remember your password for your BF2 account(s)
GO to ... Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles
Delete the Profiles folder
Start vBF2
join a Multiplayer server
closevBF2
start PR
test over time to see if freezes.



Second thought is you have the dreaded
'luafv.sys causing bsod in windows 7'
which sucks causae there are so many freaking possibilties.
Quick solution might be to roll back to older video card drivers for your gtx 250.
But there are a lot of possible causes to the luafv.sys problem, all related to the f'ing UAC.

I have already disabled UAC completely, and I updated my video drivers after the game froze for the first time, so I doubt it is that. I shall try the profiles corruption.

click START, then in the search area, type cmd , press enter.

In the DOS window that opens, type PING MASTER1.EVENBALANCE.COM

Let's make sure you are getting a connection to the evenbalance punkbuster service.

AMD OverDrive , MSI Afterburner, Realtek audio drivers, GMER toolkit, and a few other programs can cause your problems. IF you have any of these installed, please uninstall them through control panel.

Afterburner regularly causes your problem.

do you have Powerstrip running or other GFX card tweaker besides Afterburner?

IF you need a replacement for Afterburner, Sapphire TriXX it seems to be working fine so if you all want to check it out or some other fan control programs...Here is a link for the best ones I found...

Right, I uninstalled the realtek drivers, and then windows installed default audio drivers. See if that works.

Remove audio device completely (either through BIOS or control panel -> device manager) and try playing without a sound device for a while. I'm 99% on this being down to your Realtek audio device. It has been known to cause this exact issues across a range of hardware/driver revisions, motherboards and general PC configurations (all with Win7 though).

The easiest ways to test are bios-level disabling of the audio device, or using a USB based headset to play for a while (if you own one already... I don't suggest buying one to test. If you can borrow one that's fine).

The symptoms all fit the Realtek issue, although it could be another hardware level freeze.
