Performance Enhancements

My old build:

Phenom II X4 955 @ 3.2 GHz
4 GB (2x2GB) Mushkin Enhanced @ 1333 MHz
GTX 560 Ti OC'd @ 950 MHz
ASUS M4A87TD Evo

(others parts are redundant to my point)

My new build:

i5 2500k @ 3.3 GHz
8 GB (2x4GB) G.SKILL Ripjaws @ 1600 MHz
GTX 560 Ti OC'd @ 950 MHz
Gigabyte GA-Z68XP-UD3P

As you can see, the only real difference is my CPU. In my previous build, the CPU was the bottleneck, as I was only getting 35-45 FPS in Fallujah. With my new build (same graphics card), I'm getting approximately 60-95 FPS in Fallujah.

If you guys are planning on upgrading, the biggest performance increase in PR will result from upgrading your CPU.

yes, i agree. its not PR specific. its all of BF2.

Nice mate, i would love to get what you get in Fallujah the first time. I am completely broke and cant afford any new parts. PR is unplayable but I refuse to stop playing. In maps like Fallujah i get about 11 fps in some parts of the city. and it never gets above 35 lol.

But sweet upgrade. looks like what you have was worth every dime

Yeah, that's my problem (CPU is my downfall), I thought the ram was for a while as I only have 2 gigs but it's really my CPU. But I gained a substantial 20 fps on fallujah by defragmenting my hard drive, didn't think it would work that good but I was wrong.

I use the 955 as well, and it keeps me at around 30-40 fps on Fallujah. Thankfully seldom drop below 30, though.

The Phenom 955 is a GREAT Overclocking CPU.
Anyone trying to save money (and you have a powersupply that can handle overclocking the CPU) can consider buying a Antec Kuhler H2O 620 or CORSAIR CWCH60 Hydro Series H60 or CORSAIR Hydro Series H50 for US$55-65.
Then buy a second 120mm fan and four screws to make it push pull, read this article:
Corsair Cooling? Hydro Series H50 Push-Pull Performance Guide ? Corsair? Blog

Should easily OC to 3.7 to 3.8Ghz , which will improve performance on a single threaded old game like BF2 substantially.

Once you OC a 955 it can play Battlefield: Bad Company 2 at almost max settings.

Dont get me wrong you dont need uber quad to run PR @ higher fps. OC'ed dual core will do the trick, or any dual core with clock rates above 3Ghz.

I have Athlon II X2 250 it runs stock @ 3Ghz and I OC'ed a bit to 3,6Ghz on stock cooling. Temp never ever went over 30C

Sure 4gb of ram with 64bit OS and a decent mid/high end GPU is a must have these days.

I've got an Intel Duo Core 2.8GHz or something. How much do you reckon I can overclock it, if I can overclock it at all?

Is this your CPU? Intel? Core

If so look here for guide to OC it.

Yeah but BF2 is 32 bit game, so 64 bit system have exactly the same preformance as 32 bit, was tested on my QX6850, GF8800GT, but becouse my work and programs not compatible with 64bit system i roll back to 32bit system. BF2 will never use more then 3.4 GB ram, as 32 bit do not support more so u dont need a lot of RAM.

To boost your preformance (xp only) edit boot.ini file. like this:

right click to "My computer" -> Properties -> advance -> at Startup and recovery click setting: then click Edit. It will open boot.ini file, at the end put this:

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP 3GB" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect 3GB /USERVA=2500

save and exit. ;D

much better than to overclocking
