Kit-Select Freeze?

Hey folks,
having some trouble getting Project Reality to work properly.
When I join a server on Project Reality, the game freezes. Specifically, it freezes shortly after pressing the "done" button, when I go to select a squad, or shortly after I select a kit. If there is a sound playing at the time, it will repeat in a loop. At this point, I can't close Project Reality via Task Manager and I can't ALT+Tab out of the program. However, when I run the game in coop/singleplayer I have absolutely no problems. Everything I've done to troubleshoot the problem is below.
- Checked to see if I had latest updates for important hardware installed.
- Changed video settings to defualt.
- Ran the game in "windowed" mode. [The Game still froze, and I couldn't see any errors come up.]
- Opened up & tested Vanilla BF2 Online [ran into the same problem. Is this related strictly to BF2?]
- Reinstalled Project Reality's latest mappack.
- Re-installed BF2 & Project Reality, then tested them both one at a time. Both have since still had the same problems.
Note that while I play the game, nothing is running in the background aside for a firewall. Originally, I thought maybe the firewall was blocking the game. But then, why didn't anything come up when I had the game in "windowed" mode? I've since confirmed that the firewall was not blocking the game. Can anyone shed some light on the problem or how to fix it?

System specs please.
OS version (XP, vista, win7, etc) , and is it 32 or 64 bit?
What media did you buy BF2 on ? Steam, EA Origin, Retail CD?
What antivirus do you use? firewall?
What make and model of router?
And most important, what audio card or onbaord audio chipset are you using?

Specs:
- XP Service Pack 3 complete updates
- Router=Linksys BEFSX41 version 2
- Norton Security Suite
- BF2= Retail CD
- AMD Chipset & Soundblaster audigy SE
[Note: Before problems occured, I had reinstalled the operating system from scratch. Both games worked just fine before I had reinstalled the operating system. Could this be the root cause of the problem or related to it?]

Just saying...
Disable it completely and try playing. Have you used completely same drivers like last time or downloaded any new?

On a hunch, I opened the firewall's recent history. Sure enough, I noticed that it had been blocking Battlefield 2. To fix this, I spent some time tweaking with my firewall's settings. I was able to get three full online games in for vanilla Battlefield 2 without encountering any problems. I then tested Project Reality's online play. However, the game still froze. A day later when I resumed trouble shooting, the same problem then began to occur for vanilla Battlefield 2 once again.
In case it still has something to do with the problem, I've since removed Norton Security Suite from my computer. However, the same problem still occurred for both games. For the sake of approaching this problem one thing at a time, I've also removed Project Reality from my computer. There is one theory floating around stemming from a Google search.
It sounds like one guy had a similar problem. He managed to figure out that his problem specifically had something to do with anti-aliasing. In order to fix it, he went in and tweaked with anti-aliasing in his video card settings. I thought they might be related, so I took similar action. Although, people who've had similar problems commented on the specific post in the forum where I found this information stating that similar action had no affect on their problems. I've yet to test out this theory.
Additionally, shortly after removing Norton I encountered a whole new set of problems. I've since fixed them; however, I think they are worthy of note. Apparently, my desktop was set to the wrong resolution. After fixing this, Battlefield 2 began to crash straight to desktop. I spent some time playing around with Battlefield 2's video settings, and caused the problem to get worse. When starting the game up, I?d only get a black screen with the message ?Input Signal out Of Range? in the middle of the screen. However, sound was playing just fine as I could hear the game starting up.
I ended up having to go into the shortcut and force the game back into a standard resolution. It took trial and error and a Google Search for me to figure out what was causing it to crash. Apparently, Compatibility mode was selected and set for "Windows 95". I have no idea why this was causing only Multiplayer to crash.
To be clear, I want to note again that all of this started after I reinstalled my Operating System due to problems I was having with disk space.

Go to your My Documents folder and locate Battlefield 2 directory. Delete it. This will delete all your profiles and settings.
Now run vBF2 and retrieve your accounts, customize settings, and join MP game once and play for a while. IF its fine, then run PR.
You must run both - BF2 and PR - as admin. In your case since its XP you got, means you need to be on administrator account or one with admin rights.
You should also have
Net Framework 3.5 SP1
Also, if you have firewall in your router it might block BF2/PR, so either forward ports or disable it. If you have QOS on turn it off.

Alright,
I'm really starting to get the impression that I'm SOL. I went into the My Documents folder and deleted the directory. I still couldn't make it past the kit select screen. Running both BF2 and PR as admin has had no effect. Making sure I had all of the latest fixes installed for windows XP was actually one of the first things I did to remedy the problem, and turning QOS off did nothing.

Ok try this
Psyrus wrote:Firstly:
- Does BF2 start up fine?
- Add '+fullscreen 0' to the end of your shortcut to PR.exe

- Check if an error message pops up when it crashes.
- Post a screenshot of said error message when it pops up, or report that nothing popped up
