VOIP+Mumble Asset Comms

Alot of people have trouble hearing your mate when in vehicles and talking in local. I've had this idea but I've never got to use it in-game...

You need your squad in mumble on a server with VOIP enabled. Then you mute people on voip so that have a select few that you can talk to on voip. You talk to your squad in mumble as usual.

This could be effective in cas or armor squads where you mute everyone on voip except your gunner/driver. Now you can talk as much as you want without disturbing the rest of the squad. And if you spot something you can just tell your whole squad on mumble. Could also work in big inf squads where you and your SiC whisper to each other.

Of course this takes a bit of work from the squad but i think it'll be pretty awesome in the end.

My question to you is:
Have you tried it?
What do you think about it?

Or just use local, when talking to your Gunner/driver.

Get in chinook, fly at top speed, try to hear something from mumblers in your back

About the ^^ system:
Tried, and its very effective in CAS squads. You can talk with you gunner\pilot about individual targets, and another pilots\gunners\SLs talking to you, only if spotted something really important\dangerous.
Haven't tried in inf squads, but it can be useful if you want create sub-squads, like sniper+spotter and sl+medic\rifleman\lmg\etc...

I've never though of that, and it sounds like a nice idea. The only problem is that BF2-VoIP sounds horrible after PRMumble 1.0 showed up.

Easy, hold CTRL and use mouse to turn your head and look at them, Voila!

I don't think that good way, when you diving at full speed from 2km, or flying at low altitude.

I have really grown annoyed at the oddities of local in vehicles. If I am gunning in any armored asset (big surprise here I know) and I turn to one side, I believe the left, I can no longer here anything my driver says on local. I often end up saying "if its really important tell me on TS/Squad VOIP" because I cannot scan for threats and hear what is being said all the time. I have had incidents where I have had to turn the turret to the right only to hear "ENEMY TANK Left side!" this system seems like a bandaid/duct tape fix for a somewhat subtle but annoying bug.

That depends on voip preset quality in server config. If you lower it will sound really bad. You cant do nothing about it, server admins ( one setting up server ) has to do it.

The quality will still not be as good as Mumble though, will it?

I never said it will, I was referring to ''very low'' quality of voip with server that have mumble enabled. Thinking oh we got mumble lets reduce quality on bf2 voip and disable it completely is very wrong thing to do imo though.

Ive tried with and without it, it wont help with number of crashes. Doesn't affect bandwidth also so why not having it on is a question for SA who turn it off. Thinking we can force people to use mumble with disabling integrated voip is proven to be wrong on many occasions. Hopefully it will all come to its own, some day.

What do you think?

I think BF2-VoIP's quality is **** compared to PRMumble 1.0.

Not only quality but also latency, for those moments when that extra half second waiting on the message counts, mumble wins.

It's not Mumble, okay well it is but it tracks your voice depending on where your personal hitboxes are. The reason it works for infantry is because you aren't going that fast. Go in a vehicle, you're pretty much screwed on hearing anyone on Mumble. And that is the ONLY issue.

You shouldnt be trying to talk to people in a tailspin...
If you feel the need to fly low you should have organised it before you left the base.
