Can an xbox 360 controller be a gamepad if it is plugged in with charge and play?
I have an xbox 360 controller that is wireless and I got Left 4 Dead 2 for the computer, I have tried to use my xbox 360 wireless controller to work with it via charge n play cord, but it doesn't work. Is there a way to make this work, or will I have to buy a normal xbox 360 controller?

Yeah, the charging cable does not do anything to connect the controller to the PC. You need the cabled controller version or some accessory kit for wireless controllers ( Amazon.com: Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver for Windows: Video Games)

Wired is what works but might I suggest to keep the mouse and keys. Yes I know that a pad is more comfortable during a marathon session of PR but you have so much more accuracy and you can't map that many functions to the controller.

First things first...

I tried and failed to use an analogue stick for movement in PR. The biggest reason? Deviation is not designed around the concept of an analogue stick. Any movement, little or large, incurs the same penalty to deviation. The only advantage of the analogue stick in movement is non-45 degree angles of movements. This could probably be really beneficial but all analogue sticks have some 'dead zone' degradation and I know from experience of Xbox360 controllers that their sticks tend to lose that dead zone quickly.

What that boils down to is the BIGGEST deterrent to using an analogue stick for movement; Deviation up the arse, you'll never ever be able to aim perfectly... and in fact the deviation will be effectively at 100% at all times.

Sadly its not worth it.

------

I'm personally against using analogue sticks for aiming, specifically when you are up against mouses... however, if I could ever get a keyboard/mouse setup with an analogue stick for movement I'd be all over it. Minute control of movement is why third person games are much more responsive on consoles.

You can buy a wireless USB adapter that works with wireless controllers and microphones. I have one but it's made by microsoft so of course it's broken already. Wasn't expensive tho, cheaper than a controller. Google "xbox 360 wireless receiver"

You can buy a wireless dongle for windows that allows you to use the wireless 360 pad. I've been experimenting with PR and a 360 pad recently.

Are you using xpadder? I tried it and you can simulate the mouse by assigning it to one of the sticks, I felt like deviation was fine

due to lock but wanted to add one final note

Can also use a PS3 controller, Just google MotionJoy and emulate it to 360 controller.. Works with battlefield fine.
