Snipers

Personally i think that snipers can be very useful in this mod. i know there are alot of people out there who really hate snipers. but in a mod like this, i think snipers will be alot different. as recon they can remain hidden and relay enemy positions to other players. if we still had the laser designation system, they could be a HUGE help to jet pilots. they could defend flags from a distance. if its possible i think snipers should be able to spot mines like they did in ET.

i heard some people say that if the player doesnt capture a flag they are worthless. i definatly dont agree with that. aurplane pilots dont capture flags.

i dont think its a snipers job to capture points, its his job to tell the team what the other team is up to, and to eliminate infantry threats.

people also say with the commander mode you dont need snipers anymore. i also think this is false.

imagine this. enemies know your team is advancing, the commander just dropped arty which only took out 1 of them, your team is approaching, the engs know there are mines in the area because you told them. the infantry behind the tanks know the position of the enemies and where to aim beccause you are giving them the info on the spot. and now that your team is attacking, you start pouring the heat on them.

this is why i think snipers are useful, or at least i would be!

so obviously snipers have there place and are dangerous so they should be a pick up kit or in very limited numbers =D

The common mistake in most FPS games that include snipers is the "just point the gun, and pull the trigger" sniping tactics; have fun owning the map with great zoomage

There is no need to find good spot that includes cover, good visibility, ability to go prone, or support your weapon on some solid object.
There is no need to measure distance to your target, or target area where enemies may show up, what's necessary for adjusting your scope.
There are also a lot of other factors that impacts accuracy - like staying calm, being underfire, wet underwear, breath control, wounds etc.

The complete lack of all these factors above make the sniper rifle in hands of average skilled player a killer weapon, and in the hands of complete n00b it is still way to much effective. Even if the guy has to suffers much slower rate of fire. That's why "everyone wants to be a sniper", when the round starts.

I really like how sniping is done in Americas Army. You really need to be very skilled. In most cases your primary objective is to find and eliminate enemy sniper before he spots (read: instant kill) you and thereafter makes a lot of damage to your platoon. For a rookie a sniper role should be, and in Americas Army game IT IS, very frustrating. However if he joins the game as a spectator (or be a spectator after death) and watches closely how the snipers work, what the best spots and tactics are; and later if tries alone how to utilize all memorized sniper tactics together with his own good sniping skills (player agility, combat effectiveness factor, recoil, breath..) then together with his scoped weapon he becomes fantastic support for his team.

This is the way I hope to see snipers in Project Reality.
No compromises towards gameplay in this case, frustrating realism - that is what PR needs I believe.

Snipers = good.

I'm the only one that voted for pickupable kits...because I have no idea if class limiting is possible...oh well.

oh well, although i tottaly lack the mental capacity to understand how that would work, i believe you.

if they can make the rank system work for PR maybe tie the kit limiting to there rank/score so those with senoirity can get it over the nubs

Pickup Kits Plain and Simple. Keeps Noobs from becoming a Lonewolf's and skrewing his team

drx this game allows you yo be a lone wolf.. but if were talkin about PR yea we need teams but you have to realize that you cant make somthing harder or limit it just for the lack of knowlege "noobs" .. because even though we all know about the game we are all noobs and that justs not fair.

i used to be a big fan of sniping but then i started becoming alot more competitive and stopped pubbing and i realised, sniping doesnt win rounds, the way to win is to cap and hold flags and if it doesnt help you cap or hold a flag its a waste of man power, that being said for most people the goal is gameplay and therefore not whos going to wint he round so i say limit it somewhat so that it eather makes sniping a skill that is challeging and one that needs to be learned and practiced, or limit the amount on servers to like 2 or 3 per side on a 32, and 5 or 6 a side on a 64 person server

i agree if they made sniping like it was in JO added bullet drop and all other stuff people would stay away from teh sniper kit unless they REALLY wanted to learn how to use it.

just watched a new video featuring some dude from EA if you want to see it just got to the BF2 homepage all the video did was talk about the testers and show a few short bits of gameplay and i saw one part that was very upsetting the sniper rifles appear to have almost no recoil, one you fire a shot it bounes up about a half inch and thats it there needs to be alot more recoil on sniperrifles that that

it would really be interesting to see if the amount of recoil could be determined by your position.

Has anyone watched a sniper fire? For the most part, they like tog et right up and as close to the rifle as possible. I had the privelage of speakign with a few snipers in the chow line at a base here in canada, while they were on some kind of sniper related course.

Apparently, the LRSW .50 cal has very little recoil if you can get in and around the rifle, (usually a modified prone with bi-pod), but anything that keeps you and the rifle somewhat gapped, its going to jump.

I found it interesting, and by adapting some pointers such as the use of legs control while firing, i've improved my firing a lot, and have noticed a great improvement in the recoil on other weapons (not longe range rifles though).

Not sure if it could be coded in or not..

I watched the producer interview as well and noticed the same lack of recoil. obviously there needs to be more in PR. i like the sniping in ghost recon 3 and how it is less accurate when you are wounded, if they added a little screen bounce to that it would be perfect

I love being sniper and I support people being one as long as they give real support for the team. Actually I really would like to see them as "Limited Kit" but then there is a big probability to have 4 snipers, even 6 if we include the stolen ones, in a team which will be total waste of man power because at least half of those will be sniping only birds.

On the other hand I think currently in PR to have only 2 or max 3 snipers in a 32 man team is enough IF they are well camouflaged (which I think very poor in PR) and used by experienced players.

Sniper is valuable and VERY useful kit but it all depends on circumstances and terrain. Long range weapons are not always necessary. Sniper should take place in the field only, when needed.
