Returning player/ question about new versions

hello, i used to play on the 0.95 version and haven't played for a long time, just a question about microphones, are the compulsory to play this in a team? i'm all for team playing etc. I have no desire to be a squad leader. but i heard that is compulsory to play with a mic or you'll be kicked? is this true?

i like the concept of this mod and a completely different experience (props to the developers)
but i don't want to go out and buy a mic for the only mod that i'll play that i needs one. just not into the whole online talking thing

Sorry if this upsets anyone or causes rage with mic users

Hi,

some people will kick you from their squads for not having a mic
some servers will kick you for not running mumble

some won't - so not compulsory... It's unfortunate that you are unwilling to spend a couple of bucks on a mic to get the full enjoyment of the game.

And welcome back :)

its just my computers out in the main living area so the rest of the house doesnt want to listen to me talking on a mic.

i do understand that its a main purpose of the game.

are there many servers that a mic is not required?

Having a mic is good, but many people won't kick as long as you can hear the orders and follow them. Just get on mumble, it's fine without a mic.

Oc you don't need a mic for running (and listening to) mumble...

Although having one would be 1000times better...I mean how do you wanna communicate in a tight situation? Many times people can't read your chat when you are dead, so how you wanna tell the medic where you went down? There a dozens of situations where a mic is almost a must in order for your squad to survive.

Anyway: Welcome back!

No, you can still listen. Just know that wihtout a mic you can't lead and medic intervention is REALLY hard.

Also u shouldn't spam the commo-rose too much in the time u have no mic... since enemies can hear it far away... ;) :D

The point of team/squad chat is that the other team/other squads can't see it.

Pressing Q and using the in-game voice commands is a big no no as the enemy can zero in on your location because they hear it as well. Not even a "yes" or "no", your squad-mates would rather you stall behind a bit to type then give everyone's position away.

commo-rose that that window that pops up if you press q or t. the voice commons can be heard regardless of the team. And that's a tactic killer specially if you try to sneak and also REALLY annyoing.

Yes, so basically ONLY use commo-rose when in main-base! xD ^^ :P Well... as good as these sounds all are, PR makes it hard to use them reasonable... they actually should make it possible to (needs 2x that much sounds then... -.-) RIGHT-click on (for example) "Go, go!" and then the soldier whispering it... :D ;) that'd be sooooo awesome ad nice then...

When you see something like enemy tank looking your way; you have to yell into the microphone for your team to get to cover fast before some starts flying...

So yes, you need microphone; it is also a lot easier to communicate with a guy next to you who is not on the same squad with mumble.

Trust me, a little money spent on a microphone(preferrably headset for more immersion) makes the game THAT much better.

Money isn't his problem - it's that the computer is kept in a shared/common space and he doesn't want to disturb others.
