View Distances?

i think the FOG OF WAR in this game is way too over-fogged ...
i mean you cant see a shit in 200 meters
and even if your in the air , you still cant see more then 200 meters away
you see 200 under you , and 200 meters forward of you

i found in google some ways to decrease the fog by editing the game files, but after i tried it , it seems that it really worked, but i get kicked by PB for using MD5 TOOL

its not realistic..
and its annoying

anybody else agree that the fog of war need to be removed or atleast to be decreased

It's more than 200 meters, and no, I don't agree with you.

I think its the wrong definitions of "fog of war"

Your talking about the view distance.

Each map has a tailored fog distance

this distance is highly dependent on the view distance of each map, which is chosen on a performance vs longer distance basis...

also since you've seen the game files, you KNOW its more than 200m

While increasing the view distance on all maps would be great, its just not practical on most maps.

The further you can see in game, the more details your computer has to render. This causes a drop in frame rate and for some it can cause crashes.

view distances are fine atm.. only maps that could do with a bump would be Silent eagle and Shija valley..

Renamed thread.

Fog of War sounds like a really good name for an indie civil war game or something.

Well actually Noddy, Fog of War is the term used to describe the "blackness" in RTS games that you need to explore :)

first ive heard of "fog of war" is the area on Starcraft's map where you haven't explored yet. but it wasn't the first RTS to have this.

i think the view distance is nicely tuned on most maps.

I actually liked the view distance when we got to see another 200-300 meters back when 0.9 first came out. Made the game feel more like an egg hunt. And I didn't feel like trying to use the mountains on muttrah was pointless anymore. Gave a whole new feeling to the game, but then it got rolled back.

I was sad for many days following that bleak event.

Its fine. The only gripe I have is that Black Gold is different whilst the rest are pretty much similar. It takes getting used to knowing that armor can see you a lot further away than other maps. Not necessarily a bad thing as it does change playstyle somewhat.

I do agree somewhat though, It's worse as CAS, since you're flying at a height where it should be perfectly clear, yet you only see enemies when they fly incredibly close

This thread makes me want to play Warcraft (remember that game that existed before MMORPGS?)......

I have always wanted massive view distances so the assets can play more true to reality, but that would lag everyone to hell and it's probably not fun for the infantry.

To be fair Murphy, you can change your view distance settings so you won't lag.

I sorta have to agree with OP on how short some of the view distances are. Granted, some maps need short V.D.s to take account of low visibility or poor lighting, (Ex. Op. Ghost Train, Tad Sae.)

However, some maps could do with a slight view distance increase. Maps like Muttrah and Ramiel for instance, can be a pain for CAS with everything being surrounded in a 'fog' when you're at altitude trying to avoid enemy fire.

if to cause lag , so adding an option to increase the fog to people who have good computers would be nice
and by the way its not lowering the fps extreamly . only a little
i tried it already by editing the game files , it feels great , but PB kick me after 5 min..

i played karkand , its good map but worst map for snipers..

i dont like this , i dont like it cuz CAS cant see anything , and the AA can lock on the CAS from 1000 meters even without spotting it. its unfair

To be able to see further than other people would be called cheating ;)

And turning your settings down so that some of the terrain doesn't render isn't?
