Hey guys,

after trying everything I could think of and not being able to find any other topic with that specific problem I decided to ask you:

Problem:

My mumble, especially the local speech, is often (idk...maybe 50-70% of the time) really messed up. That means I hear everyone fine but people can't really understand me...they often say it sounds kinda robotic, scat-many and not understandable at all.

Tried so far:

So far I reinstalled, played with the quality options, set the "force TCP mode" option but nothing helps it.

To think about/circumstances:

TS3 is absolutely fine all the time. So it can't really be my mic or sth. like that. Regarding Upload-Speed, I know mine is kinda low but the weird thing is that it works, works, works and finally noone understands a word, which is very bad cause I am leading 99% of the time.

My clan-/squadmate sits on the same network than I do (3 rooms down the hall), has basically the same (quality-wise) onboard soundcard and it works fine for him...always.

We both have the quality option on sth. 30ish but oc I already tried form the lowest to the highest setting - no change.

Question:

Did/Does anyone of you have that too and what could it be? Is there anyway to grant more upload speed to a specific program? Any other ideas?

I am really 100% for mumble but this messes up my (and my squadmembers) experience. So please help me!!! Thanks in advance for any helpful answers.

I've heard you when your comms start to break up, it is a strange thing to hear.

First off, can you give us specs,

Specifically, can you tell us the exact onboard audio chipset you have, and the drivers you are using.
My first thought is you should update your onboard audio drivers.

Next, you should check windows audio mixer, and increase the sampling rate to CD quality.
Next, see if your onboard audio chipset has any 3rd party software, such as RealTek SoundManager, and see if you can make adjustments there.

Between yourself and your clan mate, what is the differences in the network?
Do you have a router , does he have a router?

You might be able to start PRmumble, then start task manager, right click the PR_mumble.exe instance, and give it priority->High. Test that.

Next is silly, but it has happened, are you playing on a laptop where the poor design makes it quite hot, and maybe your onboard audio chipset is overheating during gameplay when the GPU and CPU are putting out the most heat?

Have you thought about buying a cheap PCI 1x or USB soundcard and trying that?

Have you given PR_Mumble.exe an exception through your firewall, and possibly your antivirus?

Between yourself and your clan mate, check the difference in:
1. network connection, router or not? different router? different router firmware, router options?
2. onboard audio chipset, and drivers
3. firewall and antivirus software. Exceptions for PRMumble through the software.
4. Swap mics for a gaming session and see if your mic is unsheathed and ungrounded and the static electricity is shorting the audio input port/chipset.

EDIT:

Motherboard is GA-770TA-UD3 and all I can find regarding the sound is Realtek HD Audio; ALC888 codec...
But I found what seems to be a newer driver, downloaded and installed it...let's see.

My mate and I both sit in a students home on the same part (same hallway) of the "big-***" network and we both use the same headset (bought it together; changed it for test)

Sampling rate was on DVD-quality (changed it to CD to test)

I have Realtek HD Audio Manager running (only thing I could change there was the quality (CD) and to split the two plugs for the mics (front and rear) to have two separate slots...which shouldn't make a difference since I have only 1 mic anyway)

Mumble is both allowed specifically in firewall and on Avira anti-virus exception list (which is funny because my mate never does stuff like that...he just uses defaults everywhere and it works fine *argh*)

Also I thought about getting an extra soundcard but since I listen to alot of music it had to be a stereo card (I mean if I put money into it I wanted sth. better afterwards) but they are a) really rare and b) pretty expensive.

When the driver download is finished I'll test everything and report back.

I get this quite a lot but not always, more prominent on big servers though and always robotic voice inbetween rounds.
