Falklands Community Tasks

Hey all!

We could really use some help from the community here with getting rid of some of these place holders and filling in the gaps for PR:BF2 - Falklands (PR:F).

Below is a list of open "Community Tasks" that are up for grabs from anyone within the community to do for PR:F. Many assets have already been finished though this by community modders (many now R-CONs and R-DEVs who first started out as Community Modders) and providing your work is up to standard etc, there is no reason why it wouldn't be included into PR:F.

Please note this list doesn't include everything we need or that is currently being worked on, only stuff that's not currently being worked on and items we feel are necessary for the next or future releases. Please also note the priority of each item, as some things are higher priority than others as they are required for the next release or to fill in a critical gap in gameplay assets which are higher priority than assets that are just to remove a current place holder with the correct, historically accurate asset.

Anyone is welcome to have a go at these tasks, even beginners who want to learn the ways of the trade can help out ;)

So please post below or PM me if you see something you would like to take on or if you have any questions and if you do take on a task I will give you all the info and refs I have on the item :)

French Naval Attack Jet used by the Argentine Navy during the Falklands War that carriers the AM-39 Exocet Anti-Ship Missile which is the main threat to the new Type 21 Frigate & the Atlantic Conveyor which have little defence against it. Ingame it will also be armed with two R.550 Magic Short Range Air to Air Missiles primarily for defence against other aircraft, with possibly more armament load-outs for other scenarios.

The model is complete, with partial export/coding (missing LODs, cols and full coding) and the 3rd person textures are partially done (if anyone wants to finish them off let me know).

The main thing missing (that no one is working on as of yet), is the 1st Person Cockpit Textures so this task is open to anyone in the community willing to give it a shot.

The Cockpit has been fully modelled, UVed and got AOs baked for it (AOs may still require a little tweaking/cleaning).

It requires full Diffuse, Specular and Normal textures in 2048x2048 (may be later downscaled to 1024 but unlikley) with refrences provided, including a full online manual (in French) which the base textures for the instruments and other items could be lifted directly from:

Modelling Tasks:

Goose Green Community Centre Static
Priority: Normal
The main mesh is made but needs a 3d artist to create LOD's from and perhaps look into adding some extra detail(door beams,support beams,...).

Removed Large Tasks: By Priority:
These are large tasks that are unlikely to be completed in time to be integrated into any future PR:F release but if anyone is still up for doing them still they are listed below for any takers.
  1. Model 1968 Recoilless Gun (Modelling Task)
  2. IA 58 Pucara (Modelling Task)
  3. Land Rover 101 FC Truck (Modelling Task)
  4. New FN FAL Series (Modelling Task)
  5. Rapier SAM (Modelling Task)
  6. Proper Sea Harrier FRS1 & Harrier GR3 Models (Modelling Task)

Updated the OP and cleaned the topic.

The next PR:F release will be its last major release and its unlikely to have any new content added after that so I've stripped the OP tasks down to only the small tasks that can be done in time for the next major release if started sometime soon and added the Tigercat SAM Texturing task which is really high priority as we don't want to see all of lucky's awesome hard work going to waste but the other tasks would be awesome if anyone is up for them too! :D

Updated the OP with the FMK-1 & FMK-3 AP & AT Mines Export Task:
FMK-1 & FMK-3 AP & AT Mines
Priority: Normal
We need someone to export 3===SPECTER===3's FMK-1 Anti-Personal and FMK-3 Anti-Tank Mines which where used by the Argentinians during the Falklands War. The 1st person and 3rd person models are all done (other than possibly the 3p lods but its better to make them once lod0 is exported anyways) and its really just a matter of exporting this out as a handheld weapon, using some of the existing mine animations. This is a pretty easy export task so anyone who wants to learn exporting on, this is a good place to start :)

For the green retextured LAW, do you only need the .dds file then or also a ".bundledmesh" ?

It's a bit overly saturated. It's important that you do change the smaller texture because I'm assuming that's the 3p

Ye as IP said, its seriously over saturated but its not a quick RGB level tweak like you've done which screws up most of the texture, it dose require repainting.

If I'm correct, it should be possible with some algorithm (maybe there is a converter-program) which simply analyzes the different grey-colors and turns them into any other color accordingly (in this case the specific green colors). Any idea, Rhino?

If you are a bit handy with PS you can that without 'algorithms'. Fastest way is still to simply re-texture it. Faster and no loss of quality.

Are the FM FAP and mk17 models still needed because I could try to work on them

Yep, although one guy has started work on the FM FAP model but haven't heard anything from him in some time and the Mk17 1000lb bomb is an easier model if your just getting into modelling :)

Version 9 (not 2009!). You will also need poe2 tools for max 9 at some point when it comes time for setting up textures and exporting.

It's very important to get this version because it's the last version that works correctly with the poe2 tools for bf2. If you model in any later version you will need to export it as an obj file and import it into max 9, which messes a lot up. Thus, start out in max 9! :)
