WGP PR Wiki

Excalibur and me from the Wargamer Project have invested a bit of work and set up an almost-complete wiki for Project Reality.

The downsides:
1) It's in German. I hope this won't be too much of an issue, as most of the stuff is tech talk or pictured anyway, and thus should be understandable for non-Germans as well. A translation is planned, but only after the more text-focused articles have been done. No point in doing it now, for the handful of individual terms that are used.

2) It is not complete:
- Hamas, Insurgents, Taliban, Chechens vehicle sets are not complete. You'll live, considering most of them don't even have any meaningful vehicles.
- Bonus information regarding gamemode dynamics etc. are unfinished
- Some maps have not been parsed yet, and all maps are stub articles (only showing very basic info like minimaps and vehicle lists).
- Descriptive texts are almost non-existent, most pages simply display a lot of technical data for now. The wiki "as is" is definitely targeted at experienced PR players, we do not provide any beginners' guides, really.
- No PR:V or PR:Arma2 content.

3) It is not officially endorsed or approved by PR staff.

4) The wiki is closed for editing. If you have suggestions or want to improve things in whatever way (translations, errors,...), you have to contact Excalibur or me directly. We do not want to make this public editing(yet?), simply to avoid griefing and spambots.

Plus side:

All information has been extracted directly from the game files, so chances of erroneous data is minimal.
I automated most of the data extraction by creating a Java-SWT tool for this (it batch-reads specified game files and is able to parse them directly into wikitext format). If someone is interested in this tool in order to use it for other mods or whatever, please contact me via PM. The tool should be universal (it works just fine for Vanilla, at least) and the output-parser is easily adaptable.
All pictures however were carefully hand-crafted (a tedious and time-consuming work, really), automating this was not really possible without sacrificing quality. We are a bit perfectionist with this...

We also provide exemplary and general damage calculation formulas for weapons. We also give you a - hopefully - understandable damage modifier table for various ammo types as well as protective capabilities of (body and vehicle) armor. Armed with a simple calculator you'll be able to play out various theoretical combat scenarios and maximize efficiency of the various arms and vehicles PR puts at your disposal.

WGP PR WIKI

Navigation hints:
The Wiki has been optimized for widescreen resolutions of 1920x1080. Best visual results are achieved on 16:9 or 16:10 resolutions, but it should adapt just fine for smaller displays. Rendering has been tested on Chrome, Firefox and Opera, I cannot guarantee everything looks right on IE or other browsers. But every browser should do the trick just fine (except maybe crappy old IE, but I couldn't care less about that). If not, cry at us here.
All PR pages are easily reachable by using the navbox that is visible at the bottom of all pages inside the wiki.

Clicking the images on the kit tables forwards you directly to the appropriate weapon specification tables.

Feedback is appreciated.

Using our own screenshots (which are mostly the vehicle screenshots) for other projects is not allowed. If you have need of them, contact us and I'm certain we can work out a nice, properly credited, solution.

Thats pretty epic.
Stumbled upon this quite a while ago and it has become even more complete and complex.

Good job, great help if you are looking for some details about PR.
My recommend everybody to take a look at it, even if you don't understand German.

Good effort and all but...where is it?

Put a link somewhere in your OP so people can directly go for it, will ya!?

Until then: Project Reality Wiki

If you need any help with translating, I might be able to.

The link always was there. I just didn't highlight the link in any extraordinary way. I thought reading was enough to make out the usual link. Apparently not, so I made it a bit more prominent.

Glad you want to contribute, but a "might be able to" is not sufficient. You either are good at translations or not. You either have lots of time to commit to this task or you don't. This might sound harsh, but a handful of translated lines is not helpful and just increases the chaos. Translations would only be acceptable on a large-block-basis, and as stated in the OP, translation doesn't really make sense for the near future. First the existing texts would have to be finalized in order to not create unnecessary extra translation work on every revision.

pretty epic, one thing I noted with the Fraktionen: Tschetschenische Miliz, this has become the generic rebel faction since 0.9, though technically speaking they could be chechens, they're as a faction also used to represent a host of possible semi-organized opposition groups, ranging from rebels to even caucasus-based armsdealers.

revisiting this entry might reduce questions why chechen rebels are fighting british so often ;)

On the files for pr the faction is called "chinsurgent" and the maps look like chechnya.

Senshi, Great work on the wiki by the way.

Its called chinsurgent because in BF2:SF they are supposed to be Chechens. Why make shit complicated by renaming the file names?

@Wakain: You are correct, obviously. I decided on naming them Chechens mainly because in older versions they actually were implemented as Chechen Militia, and obviously all game files of them are labelled that way as well. To be honest it has just been a very good way to separate them from the "other" militias in PR (Iraqi Insurgents, Taliban etc.), plus I could use their nice flag ;) . On the long term it might be wiser to rename them to the generic "Militia" faction they currently are, yes.

@all: Really glad about the positive feedback. It's nice to see the dozens of workhour we put into this to be appreciated :) .
If you are able to read German and are an experienced player, the various "Waffen" pages still might have some interesting explanations for you. Some of the rather unique or just plain unintuitive PR dynamics are explained there in some detail and might shed some light on some of the usual "oddities" you encounter ingame (like the seemingly highly random hand grenade damage). These explanations are mostly in for special weapons, not the assault rifles. They work as they always have worked: Point at target, pull trigger, watch target fall down :P .

Most impressive. I can read German, but this should be helpful also for those who can't. I've been complaining for years now that the official PR wiki is down, as I think some things on the wiki are critical for new players, such as being able to see pictures and names of the vehicles.

Great job.

Is there an English version?

Hi guys. Sorry for not answering for some time, apparently my thread subscription that gives me automated email notifications failed for some reason...

Our webadmin just informed me that apparently the wiki gets a fairly good deal of visitors, and I was delighted to hear that, as I really wasn't sure about what kind of reception this would receive.

@All: Thanks for praises regarding the wiki, it's very motivating to see positive feedback after we put in hundreds of manhours to set this up.

@saXoni: An English version does not exist, sorry. Setting up a proper multilanguage wiki is surprisingly difficult, as there still is no native support for that in mediawiki. The multilanguage wikis you see around (like Wikipedia) all have to use a workaround that basically means duplicating the entire wiki and just cross-referencing them in the "language" tab on the menu. As filespace on our current webserver is a bit limited and this is a bunch of work we have not yet implemented this.

I still believe that most of the information on the wiki should be understandable even for non-German-speakers, as it's mostly pretty pictures and numbers. I am aware that the biggest audience is reachable via English, but I'll have to see about how and when we can do this, translating the few pages with actual text should not take long.

The point is to look at pretty pictures and numbers. Last I checked, both of them had quite a global validity. Figuring out what the numbers mean means checking up a single word or set of three words. And as I figure you have access to the magic machine called Internet, I also you figure you'll be able to find a translation for those.

@PLODDITHANLEY:
Then I guess you learned something new. I cite realityconfig_private.py:

Code: Select all

# Tickets lost when destroyed/killed
#
# Defaults:
# -10 = tanks, jets, attack helicopters, ifvs
# -5 = apcs, aavs, transport helicopters, recon
# -2 = jeeps, trucks
# -1 = soldiers
