I have BF2 v1.5 installed
Latest version of PR
I can play singleplayer on BF2 and local Co-op

But when I try to play online I get an error that says, "You have been disconnected." Not even getting to the loading screen.
Then I try to join another server, and the game crashes to desktop with no error message.

Welcome to forums. If you read trough last few posting in BF2 support section you will see that this is caused by bad Punkbuster update and there is nothing much we can do about at the moment. You can connect from second time, first time will fail always.

Until next PB update which will solve this issue our support team is unable to help in any way with this issue, therefore I will direct you on evenbalance support.

So I cannot play online until a new PB update comes out?

Yes you can, it works for me, as I said. You will have connection lost the first time you click to join the server but second time should work.

Reinstall and test pb services with pbsvc.

Reinstall the whole game AND PB?
or Reinstall just PB?

Punkbuster only. And make sure you run BF2 first before you install and run PR. BF2 must run flawlessly before you try to install and run any other mods. In case you have problems in core game, mod will have very same problems if not worse. Therefore its not PR problem, and sadly in case of punkbuster we cant do anything at the moment as I said above.

I uninstalled, re-installed punkbuster, but still got the same problem.

The same problem is happening with BF2 as well. I'll have to fix that first.

Are you using the steam version of battlefield 2?

I spend this afternoon with DonSeawolf finding a fix for that and I'm glad he finally came up with a solution:

The problem is caused by the Nvidia HD Audio drivers. Follow these steps to solve this problem:

1. Uninstall all Nvidia Drivers including PhysiX, Nvidia sound drivers , Nvidia video drivers.
2. Reboot your system
3. If you are using a separate soundcard (like creative audigy/x-fi or ASUS xonar) disable your onboard soundcard (usually something like Realtec Audio AC97) in your mainboard BIOS
4. Reinstall the nVidia drivers using the "custom installation". Now choose everything except HD Audio drivers (if shown) to install
5. Your BF2 and PR should load fine again

What's the downside to not installing the NVidia HD Audio Drivers?

Do you lose the HDMI audio out and what else ?

Well I got nvidia HD audio drivers installed but Im not using them. Using onboard realtek HD audio. Ive not had this problem ever, but I guess it might come up if using it.

Did he used nvidia or some other?
