Just wondering if the idea of a 3 faction map has ever been done or talked about? I think it would be cool to have a PLA, Insurgent and USMC map.

3 teams isn't possible, the closest you will get is if another nation's asset is on a team to simulate cross-team cooperation. e.g. Fallujah has the Bradley iirc, to portray the US Army's involvement in that battle.

However when this is done, the language files kinda need to be the same for each team otherwise you'd have a British/German/whatever vehicle speaking American when on an American team.

Anything is possible lol. But why isn't it possible? What ever answer you give will probably be above my head anyway, just wondering ha.

I think that would be cool if it could be done though. Ahh well.

It's a BF2 engine limitation. ( a Game engine is 'the thing that runs the game' (tech-noob friendly), a little bit like the engine in a car. And 3 teams are not possible with the BF2 engine. It's like driving 3 cars beside each other in a single line. not possible.

You can have the OP's mentioned scenario in ARMA 2 though, as there is a choice of blufor, opfor, independent and civilian all at the same time. I haven't seen many missions that utilize all the teams at once though.

Unless your in Soviet Russia, where you, and 2 others have cars on a 6 lane highway. Soviet Russia = ARMA2

:D

Ahh ok. So it is not possible with the BF2 engine. Got ya. I have done some messing around with UDK and was just wondering.

In Soviet Russia cars drive you ;)

ARMA2 seems pretty cool, still like BF better though.

And I think even if the engine would allow such a feature, gameplay wise I doubt it will work. There will always be two team more or less teaming up against one team, and then the battle turns to an ordinary 1 vs 1. In theory it sounds interesting to group up with the enemy to fight another party, but in really it means that 1/3 of the players will soon have a rather frustrating game, while the others can enjoy theirs.

There was a game called "Team Factor" with 3 different teams, blue red and black, where blue were mostly NATO countries, red were Russians and black could have been Israelis or the Chinese or the like.

It failed royally.

Edit: Video

Question's been answered, locking

Edit: To elaborate (I might have been unclear and was approached by a user about this lock): There is a way to have two 'factions' (i.e. kit geometries, soldier textures etc.) in one team; that's still only two teams, and two languages. Nothing remotely close to a 1v1v1 map as suggested here. That being the second point: This is a resuggestion.
