Promoting PR

Hi guys, I know this has been done to death over the last few weeks, particularly in the now locked 'player decline' thread.

Now, there is a question I was asked while trying to talk a mate into playing PR, and that was "what sort of money would I need to spend on a PC to play PR?" Or, to put it another way, what sort of spec is needed to play PRBF2? Someone mentioned in that other thread about modern standard home PCs should be able to tackle PRBF2 comfortably. Though when you go to a PC store, they can range from ?300 to over ?1000, and some have onboard graphics, some have dedicated etc etc.

Now I'm not technical, and I don't have feelers out in a market I won't need to visit for some time, as I've recently purchased a new PC, so I don't have a Scooby.

So, the jist of this new thread is really to see if bog standard modern home PCs can comfortably handle PRBF2?

Muchious Thankious.

I bought my PC last year, and I can't play PRBF2 on nice FPS, I need to run it at Low graphics otherwise it lag as hell.

I hope I'll buy another one this year.

I saw somewhere in the forums that at every new version the DEVs try to turn the maps more FPS friendly, I hope this happen on Fallujah, in my opinion this is the most resource demanding map on PR.

Nice PCs to play a game like PRBF2 are not hard to find.

Im always buying my computer in pieces and assembling it myself, its cheaper and you get exactly what you want, but thats impossible for ppl who dont know very much about computers. Here is guidance what to follow in order to find PC that can run any games on high graphics:

When choosing computer for gaming, 3 parts are what counts. Processor, RAM memory and graphics card. Im not going into details because thats just way too complicated.
- For Ram get computer with 6-8gb of "DDR 3" ram (PR doesnt use this much RAM memory, only need 3gb for PR, but price/quality is good for that sized ram and some things may use more than 4gb of ram nowadays.. price difference between 4 and 6 or 8 so small anyway)
- 4-8 core processor with minimum of 3,3+GHz per core (PR only cares about GHz and doesnt need more than 2,9Ghz, core amount doesnt matter for PR almost at all)
-for graphic card the only way to find good graphic card is to search google for graphic card test results, some sites and ppl test these parts and report results.. then choose around 4th-7th best on the list, thats where price/quality meet at best. (PR only needs like 8-11th best)

There is much more into this but rest of the details aint so important, those 3 computer pieces determines 99% about how well computer can run games.. many assembled computers doesnt have all 3 pieces, most computers have good processor and RAM memory, but seriously **** graphics card.. but in order to run games smoothly all 3 pieces must be good.

About price, by assembling your computer on your own, it costs about 800-1200 euros, if you use quality SSD hard disks in raid mode its 350euros more.. if you buy this kind of computer already assembled, then it costs like 1500+euros.. but im talking about a computer that can run any games on high graphics for next 2 years at least, maybe even 3+. Good PC already assembled that can run PR on high graphics costs around 600-800 euros i think.

By just upgrading current computer, you can save money on monitor and case. If PSU and HDD arent bad, you can keep them aswell, and that bumps ddown the price to 500-800€.

put together your own computer.

If you read the instructions meticulously, it's like putting together lego. There are tons of tutorials too. Installing an OS is easy as hell too, and pirating them is easier. It's all cheaper than buying pre-built.

tinyurl.com/falconguide

my current build falls between "very good" and "great". Plays arma 2, RO2, and lock on 2 at max settings very smoothly.

a "fair" model would run PR on max no sweat, and any game on at least a medium-high setting

This is a continuously updated guide to building a custom gaming PC at different price levels (with USA pricing).

For BF2 :P R mod, the modest level is enough to play with all high video settings.
For PR:ArmA2 mod, the Very Good or Great level is enough to play mostly high video settings.

Has anyone actually worked out the spec requirements? It can't be the same as vbf2. And would you base the req on a map like fallujah or something as demanding. .. It's something I've been asked a few times and I just gestimate weather or not they could. Be nice to know for future ref

This is what I'm after, the spec requirements.

Can this game run on 2g of ram, what's the lowest spec processor that you could run on mid settings, same for VGU etc.

I've played PR on a system of E6400 dual-core processor, 2GB RAM and HD5770. It was definitely capable of running the game, but loading times were quite long and alt-tabbing to desktop when gaming was practically impossible. I played with medium-high settings.

For smooth gaming you need a decent dual-core CPU. A mid-range graphics card will suffice, the GPU chips found in cheapest laptops are not enough to run the game.

Just a quick one.......... I've been offered a scrap PC which I intend to get working with a few upgrades, but I'm wondering if the heart of it could cope with PR, I do know it'll cope with BF2, but PR is more hungry, right?

So, please tell me if a Pentium4 2.4ghz CPU on an Abit motherboard with a Radeon 9600 video card would run PR?

Thanks.

/facepalm

Really?

Anyway, if you plan on going all low it will run it but the load times are gonna be horrible.

I've been asked for the spec requirements to play PR smoothly by a friend who wishes to get started asap.

So far we have ...dual core processors, 2gig ram and a mid-range video card. Someone please just name a fricking mid range card that manages PR easily, so I have something to work with. Cheers.

Oh and also, I'm going to be running a Twitter campaign promoting PR, so please link to any youtube vids that show the good points of PR, that includes banter between players over VOIP & Mumble.

And please, if any of you lot were dancing with me as insurgents when someone was playing MC Hammer over Mumble, please tell me you recorded it. Laugh of the year.

If you want a good ad look for Rezza's PR vid where he interviews players over mumble about why they play PR. Its really cool how he would just in the middle of a firefight walk up to people and ask them questions. Great vid.
