Hi,

I have the problem that after playing for a while (sometimes 30 minutes, sometimes 2 hours) the keyboard stops working in ingame text chat. I can open chat with J, K and L and I can close it with ESC but I cannot type anything. Anyone can help me?

Its a mystery for all of us. Happens to me all the time, but I dont type much in game anyway so not a problem. Use PR Mumble or voip. Btw its old BF2 bug nothing to do with PR.

it is an old bug of BF2? Ok, so I have to life with it. Thanks.

But just to clarify:
Only the "main" section of the keyboard dosen't work, I can type numbers with the numpad. Additonally I have the same Problem when I want to name a squad.

You'll notice this is only a 'bug' for non-native english speakers or people who type in languages other than English. I believe you are probably using Window's built in Keyboard manipulation tool, called IME.

This has some keyboard shortcuts, namely Shift+Ctrl and Ctrl+Caps Lock which switch languages.

While playing, if you're crouched and bring up the map (Ctrl), you're gonna switch languages.
If you're making a quick transition from sprinting (shift) to crouching (Ctrl), you're gonna switch languages.

BF2 can't handle non-standard input, and as such is unable to type with the IME keyboards activated.

I discovered this only since I started living in Japan.

Yes, that sounds plausible. It happens that my hand switches awkwardly between those keys, so it is quit possible that I push them at the same time. I have now set the shortcut to change keyboard layout to "Not assigned". If I don't post again, it worked.

I figured "If I don't post again, it worked." is a shitty attitude, so I tested! And you were right. I pushed ALT + SHIFT and I couldn't type. Pushed it again, and everything worked again. I have it now disabled for good, because I don't need it anyway.
So, thanks again. I wouldn't have found the solution on my own.

Oh good. Thanks Psyrus you solved that for me too. I have Cyrillic on my KB and probably that's why it didn't work sometimes for me.
