The Refractor 2 Engine

Hey gents, after reading the Back-up sight thread, and knowing about PR and what the mod and it's team has accomplished throughout the years(Thanks Devs new and old, still here and gone!) I was wondering and questioning this:
Is there anything else that can be done? Yeah yeah, fastropes etc, but have the devs now found out the entire full limitations of the R2 engine? Or because of other mods such as Alpha Project or FH2, are they just finding out new stuff? Like what can be done or put as placeholders?(Such as Combined Arms, getting a full working carrier?)(It was a placeholder, but it did work for what it was, catapults, elevators, arresting wires etc)
If that can be done, what else can be done? Then again, I think the only limitation is our imagination(Very corny, but it's the truth XD)
This is not a "WHAT ELSE IS THERE GOING TO BE?" thread, I'm just simply asking, in a general way, what else can be done that hasn't been done or what ideas do other people have?

Well, you dont know what else can be done, otherwise they would allready do it.

World Peace. But that's not possible with the R2 engine. And for PR2 you gonna use the stinky C4 engine. If you would use the CryEngine it would be possible!!!

Proper rain. Though I believe that works fine in BF2142 (also refractor, yet updated), it's not that pretty in BF2.

Hi guys,
Question :
BF2 have PR, ARMA2 have PR, CryEngine have PR, C4-Engine have PR ........
Why, the BF2142Engine have no PR or nobody want it for this Engine? I know, that already talked about that topic, that things must be new investigated and not splitting the community.
The BF2142 Engine have :
doubled geometries for vehicles, destructibleChilds (tanks with blown off turrets but driver can RTB the heavy damaged vehicle), more NetworkableInfos, fastropes (looking direction PodParachuteLauncher) but its only a oneway ticket down and not useable with the E-Button like using a rope to climb up/down and i think some other incredible things are possible like finetune zooming via mousewheel, holding breath to stabilize the aiming, rocketprojectiles can detonate at a range at your choice like airburstrounds, Static weapon turret defenses with AutoController AI (like on a carrier)
I mean, this BF-Engine upgrade is more similar to bf2 engine as other engines so why nobody try it? So much PR modules existing like Normandy, Falklands and Vietnam and other PR Engine mods.

Already been through this. Can't simply port PR:BF2 over to 2142. We're still some of DICE's models and you can't port from game to game.

BF2142 uses the same engine as BF2 but with some modifications...
All that is possible in BF2142, is possible to do in BF2, just take a look at the Alpha Project...

And if you want proper product in the end - tons of optimization is have to be done, so everyone can play, not like with GTX 680 40 fps.

Nope, it might be just an updated version of the Refractor 2 engine but many things which are "easily" done in BF2142, are simply not possible in BF2, like ballistics with tracers, etc. (It's just like comparing UT3 to UT3.5, an "updated" version but its miles ahead of its predecessor).

2. Thermo-vision in scopes.
3. 3D interior, better support for FaceTracking.
4. Handbrake, or even gearbox.
5. More, large-scale map's.
6. I'm still thinking...
1. Doubt it's possible.
2. Maybe.
3. Mosquill has done this already, unsure if it'll work on BF2 engine.
4. NOPE.
5. It's hard. Really hard. As some point I believe that the entire map has to be constructed as a static or something similar to pull that off.

It's not the refractor engine that is the issue. The application that uses the refractor engine (in this case, BF2) is limited in its control over the engine. These limits are what dictate what can and cannot be done within the game.
If I give you an orange and a toothpick and say you can only access the orange using the toothpick, you can imagine the frustration. You can get creative all you want, but it still is a huge pain in the AAS. BF2 is designed to run the refractor engine through certain methods. DICE provided us with almost a whole kitchen worth of goods, but only for preparing orange slices, instead of the orange juice we want.
If we want anything done we would either have to 1. bring it in from the outside, or 2. change the original software (the hardcoded stuff). EA prohibits the second kind of tampering and will not allow the DEVs to access or modify the original application.
If it were not for the hardcoded factors that cannot be weeded out, many, many changes would have been implemented long ago. Randomization of static locations, day/night cycle, fastropes, ... you name it.
Please stand by for PR2.

Incorrect. Some thing's that can be done are buried under a long list of higher priority tasks (Whose priority seems to be a mystery at times.)

Has to be mostly water to go beyond 4km.

false. at more than 4km the terrain starts morphing unbeliveably, so it has to be made as a static, but then its impossibru to have nice undergrowght on it.
