Hi guys. Im completely new, I found out about this mod for BF2 just yesterday and it really impressed me. I have always wanted to play a game which requires an actual teamwork, not just a bunch of people shooting at everything that moves on public servers without any sign of cooperation, so I just wanna ask if this community is still active? but i suppose so, this forum seems to be active. Also I wanna ask if i should buy just BF2 or do I need a Deluxe edition or just the classic BF2? and Im not a fluent english speaker, Im from Slovakia, Europe, so I wanna ask if its a problem, cause I know you have to communicate during play ?

BF2 vanilla no expansions requiered. Paatch 1.51 must be installed before installing PR.

Yes, the community is indeed active and in my opinion one of the best communities.

The only game you need is Bf2 with a valid CD-key, you need to buy it. (It's cheap!)

A microphone is kind of a must but unless you are a squadleader or a commander you don't have to talk much at all. And when you do speech the level of english is as low as it can get so don't worry. You wrote this post so I'm sure you'll manage.

wow thats awesome that its still that active... I know its cheap now, thats no problem, I will buy it, but theres a possibility I will join later, most probably in September, cause I have many plans for summer, i just wanted to get some information and when you start the game, is there like a server browser, like you have in BF2 or how does it work? are there some servers you could recommend? Im really looking forward to it, you guys seem really nice, I hope I will find someone who could teach me when I join. Annnnd are there also some girls? Cause Im a girl, I hope its not weird for you

If you want to play on EU servers I would suggest PRTA, NwA and NEW and when are in a squad notice your SL that you are new and try to make an xfire account to make friends while playing. And try to learn English by playing more and to use it as your main language in movies, games and such. It makes it more fun, although you will probably have an heavy accent like me. If it is your accent don't worry about it everyone has one.

please use this installation guide when ever you decide to install the game. it will save you from a lot of head aches.

and pr does come with mumble .5 but we all use pr mumble 1.0 beta. find it here

Welcome to the mod! As everyone has said, any legal version of BF2 will do, just make sure it is fully patched. The Steam version of BF2 comes fully patched, as do most other versions you can buy these days, although if it isn't, you may need to download BF2 patch 1.5, or even 1.41 and 1.5 and install them in order (no patch prior to 1.41 needs to be installed).

If you use Steam, make sure the ingame overlay is turned off while playing PR, as this causes issues for most people.

B.Pronk's server suggestions are good, and make sure you get the current version of mumble as Anderson posted. Don't give up if something doesn't work instantly.

Voice chat is very commonly used, one can hardly play without at least trying to understand what others are saying, but your English doesn't seem too bad from what I can tell. If you're not used to listening/speaking, you'll get used to it pretty soon while playing, don't worry.

About the female part, I've only ever played with one female in PR, and that was a friend of mine - girls in PR are a rarity, but that shouldn't be a disadvantage to you. If you have a high voice you might be mistaken for a child by some, but that's the worst that could happen.

Anyway, welcome to the mod, I hope you'll enjoy the stay. Make sure to read the manual, get mumble, and be patient, the learning curve isn't very low, but not too high either - give the game a few rounds to get used to it. Stick with infantry at first. There's many tutorials on youtube and here on the website, and if you don't understand any aspect of the game, feel free to ask.

I can't recommend the server 3ebra, they don't really use, hmm - gentleman language, lol.

Yes, there are essentially 4 major Euro servers that are populated.

NwA - British. My experience with them is very good, almost everyone is on Mumble, admins usually on so problems get taken care of. Good teamwork. Sometimes problems with teamstacking.

NEW - German. Another good server, heavy Mumble use, many competent players. At times may be difficult to find English speaking squads as many prefer German.

PRTA - dunno where they are, style is similar to NwA. They only use Mumble for communications, teamwork levels in evening seem to be fairly high.

3ebra - Russian. Well populated and admins usually enforce Mumble use, may be problematic unless you speak Russian, at least half the team uses Russian to communicate it seems. Has a somewhat more relaxed and less teamwork-ish atmosphere.

yeah Pronk Im kinda worried more about accent, cause Ive seen many war movies, have played many war games, everything in Enghlish, so Im familiar with military expressions, I have just never played an online game where I actually communicated but Ive always wanted to ... Im more used to hearing than speaking, but I spent 4 months in the USA last summer and communication wasnt a problem, so hopefully it wont be here )

If you made it through four months in the U.S.A you should be fine. For the girl part by the way as long as you don't start screaming it around that you are a girl it should be fine. If people start irritating you either leave their squad and report or record and report so we who those people are. As you might noticed the community is at this time focusing on imroving the quality of the community.

What is it with you Slovak people? I've met a couple at work and somehow they're always insecure about their English skills, even though they are no better or worse than typical for that part of Europe. It's fine. And in PR anyway you don't even need to know the language too well. Most communication that takes place is basic.

Oh, and as a girl, if you get immature morons making offensive comments towards you, don't hesitate to report that to admins of the server. I'm not saying you will experience that, but females in games where females are uncommon sometimes get to hear horrible things.

If you want to play on an european server due low ping, you are more than welcome on New Era Warfare (NEW) Server. Its right, we have a lot of german speaking players and squads, but there is always an english squad and even if you join the squad of one of my mates and tell them you dont speak german, they will ofc switch to english.

PS: Sorry to disappoint you guys, but I know at least three female, german players

This is one of the finest online gaming communities there is. And I've visited many. Hope you enjoy your stay and, of course, the mod itself, heh. And, yeah, as someone mentioned - about the "being a girl" thing; it's cool and all, you can probably be as female as you want to (while playing), just don't start the communication with words "I'm a girl", because it really doesn't matter that much if you understand what I mean (in the sense - it's a game afterall). I'm saying that also because maybe someone would consider you a troll or something (as we don't have a lot of girls here; I have only met a girl 1 time in my 900+ hours of playing PR).
