Trash Pile for Sappers

In ArmA's 2 ACE Mod the player that set an IED can put a trash pile using the ACE's interaction menu (that's pretty like the PRA2 interaction menu), what I suggest is, instead of the sapper switch to the cellphone after put the IED the sapper will switch to the trash pile to put over the IED if he want, if the sapper don't want it he just need to right click to switch to the detonator.

Cheers.

Could be interesting, could also be a buggy piece of **** that is a dead giveaway for an IED, or a jedi mind trick.

This is the reason why we haven't done anything like this in PR. There have been a lot of ideas like this thrown around in the past, like stuffing IEDs in dead dogs (like they do in r/l), piles of rocks etc etc.

The problem is everyone knows the maps so well that any new object like this, which we can't blend into the environment generally very well either, is a massive dead give away to an IED, especially since players learn the first second they see/use them what they look like excatly.

Our orignal IED concept back in v0.4 beta was in fact the vBF2 road cone marker that you see now and again on BF2 maps and even that was such a dead give away, unless mixed in with other cones that where already on the map.

As such, having the IED as small of an object as possible, like we have, tbh has the most realistic results we can hope to archive as while yes, in r/l there are some signs that soldiers look out for, for IEDs like disturbed ground, tools left at the side of the road, dead dogs etc, but if we do anything like that, it becomes way, way, way too obvious ingame.

The only thing that might work is the smallest pile of rocks on top of the IED location, most likely just a single rock but even that is likely to stick out like a saw thumb.

For this reason, I suggest to actually hide IEDs inside rocks. The problem is that the rocks that have no collision mesh (and that you can hide stuff in) also fade from view at a relatively short distance. So, the best IED spot would be inside such a small rock, but still hidden enough not to be visible from afar, for example in a very small street, near a corner, near a vehicle wreck or other object that is likely to block view from afar, and so on.

Locking as a resuggestion; if you intended to keep this open, Rhino, feel free to unlock it again.

Ye this is what I generally do too. If there is any confusion Spec is talking about the small, undergrowth rocks that only show up when your within ~100m of them.
