Gamebooster ftw? Cause in Task Manager you have to do manually and you never know, Gamebooster does though...

Do not end svchost.exe
it uses up all your memory ending it would boost your performance by like 10000x

Don't say that man, people that don't have a clue of PCs most of the time actually do follow such stupid advises.

if your talking about conserving memory upon startup, go start menu/run/ and type msconfig. Then go through the list turning off stuff you dont need. Just dont turn off anything vital. I always check the names of the programs on google to see if its needed.

If you have AVG which like 3 people do. They have an identity protection which takes up a lot of virtual memory so you can just manually turn that off.

Or generally, turn off virus protection while playing. (At your own risk of course; you certainly shouldn't be browsing teh interwebtz at the same time then.)

How much does shutting down Explorer.exe help, and what happens if you end svchost.exe?

Depending if the svchost.exe is running through your user or the system, it will cause a system restart and or crash. Basically it handles the runtime libraries and background check on most basic functions withing the windows software. It's not something doombringing as screwing around with the registry but it's still unpleaseant to make jokes about it, especially when people are unaware of the consequences.
Explorer.exe is basically the user interface, if you turn that off, every icon, task bar etc. disappears but normally it restarts a couple of seconds after ceasing function. You can turn it off through the .exe configuration of programs you'd like to run but the performance gained is minimal, if not negligible. It's more of a relic from the past where every function severely limited the system performance.

Honestly closing down background apps might claw you back some memory that might prevent crashing on map changes/loads but you will not see a marked difference in performance in doing so.
What are your computers specs?
