How come your not using mumble?

In TART mumble is mainly used as a help for grunts to communicate between squads. It also serves as back-up in case TS goes down. TS3 is being used because of it's more advanced features and because it's less prone to lag-issue like Mumble.
Mumble is being used normally and is as such required but the main platform is TS3.

Mumble will be used. And I really look forward to meeting anyone who is up for a great game using mumble and teamspeak.

Here I thought mumble was the best VOIP program.

Its not the best but the easiest for rather good quality and functionality, I don't expect common pubbies that have already trouble going through the installer of Mumble to know how to setup individual whispers, replies, local chat etc. on teamspeak.

If you are a squadmember, setting up teamspeak is easy. But for SLs and Commanders its a different story. Then again they are expected to be more active and similar.
There is still more room if you want to join. Anyone?

Mumble vs. TS is a pointless debate. Its actually Mumble + TS which creates the proper combination.
Teamspeak is more flexible than mumble, but mumble has the uniquely valuable tool of local chat. Teamspeak allows you to create personalized whispers to any person you want, any group you want, any channel you want, etc. You can create and delete channels, you can drag people around, you can share files, link pictures and other URLs, you can do anything you want really. In addition TS has the benefit of a "Last Whisper Key" which means if someone whispers to you and they don't identify themselves you can just whisper back and say "This is Funk, who is this?". Individual players can create their own whispers, like every player can whisper to the medic if they want, or the 2ic of a squad can have a whisper set up to other players so that they can choose to relay info for the SL if he wants to focus on something else. Whatever, its anybody's choice. Mumble allows whispers in a rigid way thats not customizable and only available to the SL and CO.
Mumble has local chat which allows two people to coordinate while not clogging squad channel, not talking over the SL who might be whispering to someone else. It lets multiple members of the squad talk amongst themselves without having to talk over one another and of course lets non squad members communicate together if they run into each other.
Different tool, different job, but together they make for a good comms tool box.
I'm surprised people don't see the distinction between the two progs, or they just think its too much work to manage between the two of them.

Actually I know of people that have setup local chat for TS3 aswell, TS3 is capable of 3 dimensional sound output but it does require some work around (don't ask me the details, I don't know them and no, I'm not talking about a plug-in like ACRE). But it works much smoother than mumble with even 100+ players, no lag or distortion persists.
Talking of which, does anybody know why the new Mumble tends to break up and lag out while the old beta didn't?

The reason you wanna use mumble though is because its been promoted by PR and is basically plug and play (meaning people will ask why bother with setting up TS3 for local, which I'm sure is obvious to you Brain).
But yes, I love TS3. Its very cool. Once you use ACRE with Arma 2 you pretty much can't ever take Arma 2 VOIP seriously again.

Sure, I fully agree with you, just thought I might point that out and epic lulz ensured when using VON, that thing is worst than BF's VOIP, I thought I got ear cancer from it

Yea the first time I heard the squak and the grainy radio signal coming in with ACRE I nearly wet my pants. That it has multiple player selected channels, limited by range, and that it deforms the signal based on the terrain you're in (like the bottom of a valley versus the top of a hill) makes for a whole lot of really deep leader decisionmaking.
Glad though that PR finally has a higher quality voice system. I remember when the PRT upgraded from TS2 to TS3, I didn't recognize the people I had known for over a year the voices sounded so different. Same thing happened with the first use of mumble in the battles. It was only recognizable who you were talking to because theyhad name tags above the voice.
I can't believe how savage our existence was not too many years ago.
