CD-Drive only reads blank disk?

Warning this may be off topic from PR
I wanted to reinstall my BF2 back into my computer when I noticed that it did not even notice that It was in the pc. So i clicked on the CD-drive icon which said "please insert disk into Drive E: ". So i tried a number of other CDs and had the same result. Finally I popped in a blank CD and found that It ran it just fine. Not sure what the problem is. The disk only spins when it was blank.
Things I tried
-uninstalling the device to let the pc reinstall it.
-checking properties
-used a windows easy fix program
-scanned PC
-tried other disk
-repeating the disk insert procedure(while banging my head against a brick)
-flipping the disk
-etc.
